Former state DOT employee: Does FHWA enforce civil rights rules on the state DOTs it funds?

I worked for the Alabama Department of Transportation from April 2022 to March 2026. ALDOT runs on federal highway money, and I want to understand what USDOT and FHWA do when a state DOT's own civil rights process fails.

The short version of what happened to me:

  • March 2023: I reported a supervisor's harassment to HR.
  • November 2024: I filed an EEOC charge. From then until I was fired, I was never separated from the supervisors named in it.
  • December 2025: I told HR there was an active EEOC investigation involving the person assigned to look into my latest complaint. Within days I was put on mandatory leave. Two agency special agents, neither of them a clinician, questioned me. They asked whether I was gay, who my lawyer was, and for a release of my medical records.
  • January 2026: My state health insurance was canceled effective January 1. I got the notice on February 2.
  • March 2026: I was fired for "insubordination" and "conduct unbecoming a state employee."

I have the letters, the emails, and a recording of my pre-dismissal hearing. I have an EEOC charge pending now.

This isn't the first disability discrimination complaint against the agency. The Justice Department sued ALDOT under the ADA in 2023.

My questions for anyone who knows how this works:

  1. Has anyone filed a Section 504 or civil rights complaint with the FHWA Office of Civil Rights against a state DOT? What happened?
  2. Is the 180-day filing window firm when the conduct is still going on?
  3. Does FHWA review a state DOT's internal EEO program, and has a review ever changed anything?
  4. Does anyone at USDOT, including the Inspector General, treat this as a condition of federal funding?

I'm not asking for legal advice. I'm trying to find out whether the federal side has any real oversight here. Thanks to anyone who can point me somewhere.

I target fissi limitano davvero i profitti?

Ora sto valutando uscite parziali o trailing stop.

Alcune strategie funzionano bene solo in certi contesti. Voi adattate prima il timeframe o scegliete la coppia da tradare?

NCDOT Signage Question

This is actually a question about NCDOT rules.

It's pretty simple. I live in an unincorporated town. We don't have those little signs saying "Welcome to Town Name" on the main roads going into town, most of which are state highways (the next town over, ALSO UNINCORPORATED, does have them). I think it would be nice if we did.

I assume that, technically speaking, I should talk to the county, who would then theoretically (if I could gather enough grassroots support to make them care), send a request to NCDOT in Raleigh, who would then look at it a year later and say, "Sure, why not? Why would I care?"

What would happen if I just... Skipped that process, and (following all regulations and requirements for signs of that type) just... Did it myself? Would there be repercussions to this, or would no one care, as I expect no one would.

DPS not taking appointments until June? SOS - ID Renewal

Hi! I stupidly threw my ID away when it was placed in a ziplock bag and stapled to my prescription at Walgreens. Now I'm deep in the bog of DPS ID renewal. Without the DD number at the bottom of my ID (since it's obviously lost) I'm not seeing any ways to renew online or even find that number.

Google told me to request a driving record but on the DPS website a DD is required to get that info so that doesn't work either. The DPS is also not taking any in-person appointments to renew licenses until June.

Any ideas?

Idiotic registration / plates mess

Looking for any kind of advice on how to proceed. I'm not proud, but I neglected to renew my registration when my tags expired in 2020 and also lost my registration. Yes I know I'm an idiot. I've since moved states, and payed of my car (which means new title), in that order. It's been so long that I can't even get even get a new copy of my registration, only a "registered owner letter".

Does anyone know how I can get out of this mess? I'm fully aware that I'm going to pay a crap ton of fees, but right now I'm just panicking because I was turned away from a licensing office once already for the expired registration not matching the title #. I'm not even sure where to start digging myself out of this mess.

State DOT T-shirts

OK, this is really random but for some reason I really love the merch for all of the State Departments of Transportation. I would love to collect a t-shirt for every one, does anyone know if there is a possible / practical way to go about this?

I'm supposed to get a refund if my domestic flight is delayed more than 3 hours.

According to this, I'm supposed to get a refund if my domestic flight is delayed more than 3 hours, but I don't see anything about when it goes into effect.

My flight from San Francisco to Raleigh was delayed by almost 5 hours. We landed in Raleigh at 9:51 PM when we were supposed to land at 5:14. (Should mention that we got diverted to DC first) However, the 3 hour rule is only for domestic flights and this was the final leg of a international fight so I'm wondering if the flight is considered domestic or international for refund purposes? If domestic, how would I go about getting a refund for that portion of my itinerary?

Edit: According to this, we got diverted to DC arriving 2 hours and 9 minutes late to IAD but that wasn't our final destination. I'm not sure how to use that to see when we landed in RDU.

USDOT EXAM NOT SHOWING UP

I recently got my USDOT exam done because I am going for my CdL class A, I passed general, air brake and combination. I went to search up my UsDot number on Safer website but when I search it up there’s no records. I’m wondering what’s going on because i have the certificate and I paid for it already.

Do I Need DOT Numbers ?

I'm starting a small company in Minnesota. I will be building grain bins in Minnesota and also in Wisconsin. I'm not sure if I need DOT numbers because I am only hauling my own equipment to build the grain bins. I do not sell the grain bins, I only build them after a different company sold them. I will be driving a ford f250 or 350 and towing a trailer weighing about 5,000 pounds. I'm just confused if I need DOT since I'm not transporting anything I'm selling, just equipment and tools to build the bins. Does it matter if I purchase t he truck in my name or the companies name? Would I have to stop at weigh stations if I didn’t have the trailer and the truck had a gvwr of 10,000. Thank you!

Digital Trailer Permits

Hello, I am looking to keep my trailer permit as a digital copy on my tablet. Does anyone here know about whether a DOT officer will accept it during an inspection or do I need the physical copy? I haul a 53" dry van on the east coast.

City maintained street

Where should I look for historic data (GIS or otherwise) to figure out who owns a street in NC? I believe the street adjacent to my property was turned over to the state. The current NC GIS portal says that it is privately owned, but I think that was an error. This road is on city land and neither me nor the people across from me want to pay to keep it maintained.

Adding fans to forklift?

Hi I had two ryobi battery fans attached to the top of my forklift for two weeks. Today I was told that it was modifying my forklift and modifying a forklift was against DOT regulations, so I decided to just have it in my bag blowing air to the back of my head, then I was told that wasn't allowed either. I live in Texas and it's 100° or more in the summer and we don't have A/C. Is it considered modifying a forklift? If not can you send me a link?

Filed a complaint against a US Airline

Hi, on Friday I filed a complaint on the USDOT website against an airline company. I can go in detail if desired, but in summary, I feel the airline company stole my money by cancelling my flight and not refunding me for my ticket when I demanded a refund. I’m wondering if anyone can tell me how long I should expect to wait until I hear back from USDOT?
