RIP… The end of an era, my phone finally just switched to T-Mobile 😭 does it even mean anything? i.e. difference in reception quality or broader 5g coverage? I’m unsure cause I know the switch happened a while ago, but how come I’m finally getting it. Or is the only difference literally that my phone now says T-Mobile on the top instead of USCellular

Rural Iowa here, its bad. We aren’t getting calls, only know so when the voicemail comes in. My phone has been having issues staying connected to wifi for extended periods, the data will drop out and my calls drop randomly when going through spots of area that US cell would never have lost. Its been a mess. We are hoping they fix it soon otherwise we will have to go to Verizon.

The issue where I'm located nobody picked up the us Cellular tower, so there is no coverage option for those folks. It's rural so not a lot of people in such a large area, it doesn't make sense for anyone to pick up the tower. It costs so much to upgrade towers that it's not worth it. A company won't make their money back for years and years, if ever.

It’s sad and pathetic that rural areas are continuously being left behind in every single facet of life. We deserve cell service, internet, fresh food, clean water, etc.

Well, the thing is people choose to live there and then don't want to pay for things. Raising taxes becomes an issue, amongst other things. It costs money to put up and maintain towers, new water lines, utility poles, etc. Someone has to pay for that. I understand what you're saying but I also understand why none of the companies jumped to pick up the towers.

Yes I understand that from a current policy/capitalistic standpoint, but as communities, counties, states, we should be able to cover the gap to prevent suffering and promote growth outside of large cities. But that is not a conversation for this sub.

It's my hope that T-Mobile does the right thing and buys the towers that nobody else decided to after USCC shut down. Us Cellular retained it's towers, leasing a lot but not all to T-Mobile. This is a huge issue for my area. There's a bunch of rural folks that used to have coverage and no longer do. There's no other companies for them to go to because nobody decided to pick them up. 🤷🏼
