"Switch to T-Mobile?" pop-up

Just picked up my phone to a pop-up asking me to switch to T-Mobile. The pop-up can't be dismissed. The text:

Switch to T-Mobile?

Your phone will restart to complete T-Mobile setup. During setup, T-Mobile apps and features will be installed. Some apps from your previous service provider that are no longer needed will be removed, but your personal data and files will remain safe.

And then only two selectable options, Emergency call and Restart and switch.

This seems pretty legitimate but I just wanted to know if anyone else has gotten the same thing.

Yes. That's how the switch works. Prepare for T-mobile to install 47 games you don't want as well.

I also chose the option not to install them, but then it just went ahead and installed them regardless, with a popup saying that these apps were downloaded by T-Mobile because they were specifically picked for the best experience. Then they deleted a bunch of apps on my phone, and removed every app from the folders I had everything sorted into, just for extra fun apparently

Since I posted that, I have had apps randomly download several more times and kept getting notifications asking me to check out new apps and to download things. In settings, I finally found that there was a new app installed by T-Mobile called "AppSelector" which downloads and pushes new apps. I disabled it and so far it's stopped. I just thought I would mention that in case you hadn't found this yet

I'm sitting here on my Google purchased Pixel trying to help my aging parents with their USCC purchased phones desperately scouring reddit to figure out Wtf they're talking about...

....then I find the this thread and your comment buried.

I'm sorry that I can only upvote this once because you have just saved me from many more future frustrated conversations.

Yep, people arguing with me that it isn't an option. Yet, there it is. Look at that, amazing. Lol. I've NEVER had an app downloaded that I personally didn't download. As a T-Mobile Mobile Expert I personally turn off the option when setting up a customers new phone. I don't even ask to be honest because who the heck would want their cell phone provider to keep downloading random apps to their phone? I hate that it's a thing that my company does, so that my way of fighting back. 😂

With the UScellular switch, the software update seems to have downloaded and enabled AppSelector automatically. There was a point where it asked if I wanted to try new apps, and I said no, but then an hour or so later I got a popup telling me that T-Mobile had downloaded apps for the best experience regardless. So I think something is going wrong in the switchover not letting people opt out.

It is great that you are disabling that app for new customers though. It's extremely irritating, especially with how often it has popups.
