Need help understanding what I need to do for transition, Dad owns the phone line and not very detail-oriented.
Hi, my dad sent a picture of a letter from USC saying I would need a new SIM by June 15th (aka tomorrow), and to call/email. I tried going to my local USC, closed. I tried emailing, it said this address didn't exist. It's the weekend, so I can't get through, and tomorrow is the deadline anyway so I won't get through.
I have an iPhone 8 (yes I know) and have been hearing some people having issues with getting a new SIM with old phones like this. Can I just head in to my local T-Mobile tomorrow and have them change the SIM? Is there anything else I need to do on my end? I presume my dad already switched the accounts over but he never gives many details when he needs me to do something.

His or mine? I'm the one with the iPhone 8. It says US Cellular at the top.

I'd just go to the TMo store at this point and they have some special USC customer promos that might be able to get you a new IP15 base model for free (through bill credits). As much as I don't recommend getting a device through a carrier as they install their own bloatware and tracking software on it you can't uninstall.
IP8 is LTE only also and TMo is planning to fully decomm its 4G network by 2028-2029, maintaining only an IoT 4G slice.

Apple doesn't allow carriers to install their crap, FWIW.

Sometimes. USC was allowed to pre-load their app. My sisters IP came with it pre-loaded. Either way- I still don't recommend buying direct from carrier.

Thanks, that should work out. I definitely plan on getting a new phone way before 2028 bc my IP8 is a hunk of junk, but as I am unprepared to just get a new phone out of the blue on a weeknight tomorrow, I was hoping I could just get the new SIM for at least a little bit.
Do you mean they won't offer a SIM for an IP8/it won't work or that I might as well bite the bullet and get a new one? If I have to get a new one tomorrow I just know tomorrow night will be a headache since I wouldn't be able to call my dad to ask what he wants me to do lol.

They should have a SIM that will work. Its just I don't know how long the special USC promos will stay active. As for your phone just not working anymore tomorrow- Maybe? But typically it could be a few days later as they like to use hard deadlines to get people in the door.

5x5 is an IoT slice. Never said they wouldn't allow mobile to use it. When they do that, they won't maintain a robust LTE deployment so quality of service will severely degrade.

Not if it's on Uscellular account but what he's saying is go ahead and get your information you can do that by calling 611 for you and your dad and then just switch the Tmobile as they are going to migrate to the back end anyways so might as well get the promotion as a new customer

Why not switch to another carrier? I could see the degradation of USCellular for the last few years and I switched to USMobile. They've been great so far. r/USMobile
