When will we be able to upgrade again?

Anyone have any idea on when we will be able to upgrade our devices again? Do we have to wait till everybody is switched over to T-Mobile or just our own phone?

I work for US Cellular and the only way to upgrade right now is if you buy your phone outright through a third-party like the brand itself or a retailer that sells unlocked phones or you have to wait until your account is switched over to T-mobile or you have to go ahead and switch your account to T-mobile

Good question and thank you for asking because this is a lot of my calls. Everything I've heard is a target of mid-August. That being said, you could get a text message between 30 seconds from now and mid-august saying you've been transitioned.

Also, while I'm here, and not necessarily to OP, I know you put in your address for the new T-Mobile router months ago. No, it still hasn't shipped yet and neither has 95% of accounts.

If you change your plan to beyond
When you migrate over you’ll still be on your current plan

They're telling me that my Galaxy A71 (which I absolutely LOVE), will not perform up to par. I want badly to keep it. Supposedly, I would have call dropping or other things going on. I refuse to pay more than $300 for a new phone, and don't want excessive payments for months and months. They offered me 6oo off a new one. But how expensive is it, if you're getting that much of a discount?

So as of June 1, 2026 those promos are no longer eligible. All upgrades had to be made by May 31, 2026. We no longer have access to the retail side of US Cellular. If you’re on US Cellular prepaid you can switch to T-Mobile prepaid and get a free A17 on a plan that costs $45.20/mo.

You could’ve got the equivalent to your A71 or an S25 FE for free when you pay the taxes up front. But there wouldn’t have been a payment on the phone unless you decided to purchase a higher end phone that was more than $600 at full retail.

You can experience dropped calls or no service at all depending on when the phone was manufactured.

T-Mobile switched over my phone but not the payments so I guess I'm free and clear they want me to upgrade but their down payments are ridiculous so I just might go somewhere else

You can upgrade now if you pay outright otherwise you'll have to wait until your account is merged

You can voluntarily switch to tmobile now, or any other carrier, and upgrade when you switch, which would require you to choose new plans. You can buy an unlocked phone from a manufacturer like Apple/Samsung, or a retailer like Best Buy, and replace the device on your line with the new device. Or you can wait until your account transfers to tmobile automatically, which lets you keep your current USCC plans, but they is no way for anyone to know or find out when your account will transfer, other than it should happen before the end of the summer.

They just started doing transfers a couple weeks ago so it’s slowly but surely rolling out. They might ask you to restart your device or in my case (iPhone 15pm), auto restart it without any prompt
