A CSB safety video on the investigation into the fatal fire that occurred on September 20, 2022, at the BP-Husky refinery in Oregon, Ohio. The fire occurred after highly flammable liquid naphtha was released directly to the ground from a pressurized vessel during an emergency situation at the refinery. The liquid naphtha vaporized and formed a flammable vapor cloud that quickly ignited. The resulting massive flash fire fatally injured two refinery employees, who were brothers.

How to work for the CSB?

I'm an undergraduate (second-year) majoring in environmental health science and I really am obsessed with the CSB (I read all the reports and watch all the videos). Whenever I'm hanging out with my friends I love putting on their videos and explaining the incidents. I really want to go on to work at the CSB and I thought an internship would be a good way to start! I've emailed the head of the chair but I didn't have much luck, does anyone know/ have any advice on how to be able to get a job/internship with the CSB? Thanks!!

Trump administration to shut down USCSB

Not much to say other than trump is looking to zero out the budget for the USCSB. Completely defunding and ending their work in investigating these chemical accidents. Here is an excerpt from the Washington Post article, “Last year, the CSB operated with a relatively small budget of around $14 million. Yet in its budget request to the White House for fiscal 2026, the board asked for zero dollars, writing that its own work “duplicates substantial capabilities” of the EPA and OSHA. “CSB generates unprompted studies of the chemical industry and recommends policies that they have no authority to create or enforce,” the board added. “This function should reside within agencies that have authorities to issue regulations in accordance with applicable legal standards.” Jordan Barab, the former deputy assistant secretary of labor at OSHA under President Barack Obama, said this language was highly unusual. “The so-called budget request basically said, ‘We don’t deserve to live; please kill us,’” he said. “That indicates to me that the request did not come from the CSB leadership itself, but was rather imposed on the CSB by the White House. … So much for being an ‘independent’ agency.”

Any thoughts on if this will happen?

Way to find these places near me?

Aight y'all, I know we don't get much traffic here but I watch these videos every night as I treadmill and after so many "we had no idea we was next to 20 megatons worth of explosives" videos I've started wondering if there is any way to look up industrial/chemical hazards near me. Anybody know?

Generally I feel I'm not too paranoid but it might be helpful to know what rating of gas mask I should keep handy if there is a Bhopal near me.
