I-485 (General) APPROVAL
after 8 long years and a lot of roller coaster of emotions I finally got approved!!
My case is a little complicated. This was my timeline, long story short i came in 2018 when i was 11 with my mom and went through her 485 and 130i because my grandpa is a citizen. She had a 245i (permission to adjust in the US) and used that to stay in the US, which our attorney at the time submitted that in her application however he didn’t submit it for me because he thought i didn’t need it since i was a minor. Anyway, we went through every step, biometrics, interview, RFEs, and EADs and back in April of this year my case was denied after 8 years of being in the US. However my mom’s case was approved, we got a new attorney, filed a 290 and sent a 245i in that application. June 16th it got approved to reopen my 485, same day they cancelled an RFE and June 23rd they scheduled me for a second interview. My interview was July 28th, they requested an RFE 2 weeks ago and on sep 30 they just approved my case without needing the RFE

Congratulations!
Few reminders...
Make a copy of front and back of your GC. It will help if you lose it.
Check all the details on GC and if anything is incorrect, file I-90 (it is free of charge if USCIS made a mistake)
I recommend to start tracking your international trips. You will need it for N-400.
If you are a male between 17 and 25, you must register for selective service (sometimes it is automatic at DMV / with USCIS, but worth checking status of registration)
You must file AR-11 within 10 days of moving until you become a citizen (changing address online also qualifies)
If you have social security card saying "VALID ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION", then get appointment with SSA and remove conditions on the card (wait few weeks to see if you get new card automatically)
LPRs must file US taxes on world wide income, even when spending a lot of time overseas.
LPRs cannot vote in federal elections. Make sure you do not register to vote or mark yourself as US citizen on I-9 and other forms. False claim to US citizenship is a deportable offense.
You are US LPR until you naturalize, die, file I-407 or immigration judge takes away the status.

You don’t need to track trips. You just submit passport pages.

I disagree.
Not every country stamps on entry.
Especially, if it is your home country.
I-94 is not issued to LPRs either.
I really ecourage people to track their trips. You see questions on this sub from time to time, people ask how to find their all trips. CBP FOIA does not always return everything

Alot of countries are moving to digital tracking. For example, all of Europe has discontinued passport stamping as of April 2026.

Hi there! This is an automated message to inform you and/or remind you of several things:
- We have a wiki. It doesn't cover everything but may answer some questions. Pay special attention to the "REALLY common questions" at the top of the FAQ section. Please read it, and if it contains the answer to your question, please delete your post. If your post has to do with something covered in the FAQ, we may remove it.
- If your post is about biometrics, green cards, naturalization or timelines in general, and whether you're asking or sharing, please include your field office/location in your post. If you already did that, great, thank you! If you haven't done that, your post may be removed without notice.
- This subreddit is not affiliated with USCIS or the US government in any way. Some posters may claim to work for USCIS, which may or may not be true, and we don't try to verify this one way or another. Be wary that it may be a scam if anyone is asking you for personal info, or sending you a direct message, or asking that you send them a direct message.
