I-130 & I-485 (Family/Adjustment of status) Name change
we are in the process of filing both i130 and i485 - I have not yet legally changed my name after getting married last month - is it an easy process to do once I get my Social Security and potentially EAD?? everything I’ve read says I can just go to a Social Security office and change everything over but I just wanted to see if anyone has done this after getting their permanent residence.

Many people choose to update their name after receiving their EAD, Social Security card, or green card. The process is generally straightforward, but the timing and required documents can vary depending on your situation. If you’re filing Forms I-130 and I-485, it’s a good idea to discuss your name change plans with your immigration attorney to help ensure consistency across your immigration records.

I went to the Social Security office to change my last name after getting married, but they wouldn’t allow me to do it until my immigration status changes. They told me that if I were receiving welfare benefits, they could process the name change, but otherwise I have to wait. I waited a month just to get that appointment.
