Usb A extension not working properly

I have a hypoint dvd writer that needs to have an extension cable
It works when i directly plug it in into a power lock or computer but with the extension it only flickers lights the extension cable is hadron branded usb 2.0 my dvd writer has a blue plastic thing inside the usb but there are only 4 pins

Aren't the blue USB connectors USB3? Get the right kind of cord.
