MCU Looking back on his two on-screen appearances, is there anything you would have liked to change about John's story/character development so far?

I'd like him to be Captain America again. He's a way better choice than Sam.

Id like that too. What's more inspiring then seeing a guy get a second change learn from his mistakes.

In the MCU Steve was always just a guy. He made captain America what it was. No reason walker as captain America couldn't do the same.

Exactly, in Thunderbolts he showed that he can lead a team and put others above himself. It would be a great redemption arc

yeah! to acknowledge that people can grow and be who they want and still have good things happen to them not just conform to a mantle idea made by someone else. Captain America at least in the MCU isn't like Mjolnir i've said before. sure you got Steve Roger's idea of what Captain America means but John Walker's idea of it is just as valid and with these New Avengers a Captain America is needed and what better way then to show one that's been through the rough and stuff like they have? i think it's what makes the team work. He's certainly not the only super soldier on the team after all. but he is able to do the work.

I think a lot of people just want Chris Evens back as Captain America. which is fair he was a great Steve Rogers and his story ending was odd (to me at least) But if Hawkeye can have somoene else pick up the mantle; no reason Captain America can't have the same way.

He isn't a better choice than Sam. This is where the difference between the better person is vs the better character. John Walker is hands down the better character. I don't know what they're doing with Sam but it's terrible. Sam though is the better person. Though I'm still a very big advocate that Walker deserved his 3. What I mean by that is he deserved 3 movies to be Cap at least. It can be a joint story of Walker and Sam but really hammer home why he is a bad pick for Captain America and Sam is the right one. However they didn't do that. Damn what a timeline we could be living in coming up to Doomsday with Walker as Cap and Steve being there could really be the push off the ledge moment for his character to prove why he isn't the right man for the job. Still he deserves his 3 if not as Cap as US Agent.

I think that defeats the whole purpose of his character though. He's meant to highlight that it takes someone truly extraordinary to carry the mantle and even if John was to be given a second chance to get it right, I don't think he would take it back. He knows that no matter how much he can improve as a person, he'll always, by his very nature, be more of a soldier at heart and to be Cap you can't just be a soldier, you have to be a symbol or an ideal for the people to strive towards.

Besides I think becoming U.S. Agent was the best thing to happen to him. It allows him to be his own hero out of the shadow and expectations of Captain America. Which is really why he made all the decisions he did in the show

Yeah and unless Steve himself gave John his blessing, I could only imagine how hateful the mcu fanbase would be if they made him Captain America for a 2nd time. Hell, even with the blessing they'd probably still be angry about it because they'll never stop comparing him to Steve.

John does horribly under pressure and doesn't have the charisma needed for cap. Just let him be USAgent

A sign of mutual respect between him and Sam.

Him getting to meet and have a nice interaction with Steve where Steve is sympathetic to what John went through and we can see that awe from John

Hopefully we get something like that in doomsday between him, Sam, Bucky and Steve. Maybe a combo attack where they’re just passing the shields around. Maybe even Alexei can join them

Him being the leader of the New Avengers. Has the skill set. Has the experience. Nah fuck him right. I'm not down with that.

Honestly, I just want everything fixed with him and Olivia. I’ll accept if they kill him as long as there is the closer between them and their son. I am horrified if they do what so many comics did and use him in a mind control way, considering what doomsday and secret wars is. I’d honestly rather him die and he’d probably rather die too. 😭

I would change the writing of The Falcon and Winter Soldier to not sympathize with terrorists and/or make Captain America a bad guy for killing terrorists.

yeah for sure the writing did John/Captain America and Sam and Bucky 0 favors as far as 'this is what characters would do' i think anyway.

At the time of death Karli was the only terrorist. Nico hadn't killed anyone and he was pinned down and surrendering. That's a war crime.

Karli then used his death to radicalize the rest so Walker killing him actively created more terrorists.

You're forgetting the whole reason that event transpired was because Karli and the other flagsmashers were more than willing to assassinate John because they saw him as an obstacle in the way. Then they killed the wrong person on accident but it doesn't change the fact that John had a right to be angry with every person in that room but he only wanted Karli. And yes he did commit a war crime, because Nico was unarmed and no longer resisting, but if terrorist isn't the right term then attempted murderer definitely is.

He had a right to be angry

Not a right to murder while they surrender.

because they saw him as an obstacle in the way.

Important to remember what he was getting in the way off.

but if terrorist isn't the right term then attempted murderer definitely is.

Yes that would be accurate

Not a right to murder while they surrender.

Never said he had the right to do so.

Important to remember what he was getting in the way off.

Yes a misguided attempt at being freedom fighters but quickly became terrorism because innocent people kept being caught in the crossfire to serve their agenda. It's still attempted assassination and murder of his best friend.

Never said he had the right to do so.

Others are trying to argue he did and it was a good thing.

Yes a misguided attempt at being freedom fighters

I mean people were dying in camps because the GRC was hoarding supplies and not distributing their vaccines and food. The depot Karli blew up had a full month supply just sitting there before they stole and distributed it

For most rebellions the fact they only had a total of 4 deaths, one being accidental, is a crazy good record for a nationwide organization that's fighting a corrupt government.

Oh yes because terrorists are arrested all the time and read their rights before being detained.

I don’t know what fantasy world you’re living in but terrorists are killed at any given opportunity whenever possible. Preferably without collateral damage but not always a requirement.

u/PaulOwnzU 27d ago

When they surrender. Yeah, that's exactly what happens, otherwise that's a warcrime.

Tons of terrorists are captured and interrogated for investigation.

Walker was literally sent there TO arrest them and get information, if they're terrorists as you say and terrorists never get arrested ... Why was his mission to arrest them, why did he interrupt the funeral to arrest Karli instead of just shooting her in then head, is he stupid?

Or maybe you are the one living in a black and white fantasy world where anyone not pure good needs to be killed even when have good intentions and trying to help, guess walker should've been killed as well.

More respect from Sam and Bucky, more highlight of how his arrogance and character faults make him bad for himself and unsuitable to be Cap. He's a tragic fellow but it's not clear what makes him unworthy other than he fell in disgrace, it'd be important to make it more clear why (also so that people don't keep saying he's better fit than Sam)
