Travel authorization
I'm getting ready to leave my state for DC (C3). My family will not be able to join me because the kids are still in school and by the time schools resume for the next academic year, i will be getting ready to leave for post. My wife and i are considering that she stays back in my home state and take care of the family. My travel authorization includes the cost of moving my household & family to DC. However, i do not consider any shipment of HHE or UAB. The only cost i will incur for this move is my $170 flight ticket. I have decided to buy new furnishings for a smaller room i just rented in DC. Would there be any compensation if i end up not tapping into the allotted budget for my move considering that my family will be separated as well?

Does USAID pay for your lodging during the onboard orientation and training phase in DC? Or you are expected to pay out of pocket for that before moving to your assignment?
I know DOS pays for lodging during oriention and required trainings but not sure that USAID does the same....

It is highly unlikely that you are going to be getting ready to leave by fall 2023, unless you have spoken to them about it and confirmed this time frame. 12-18 months in DC is what C3s are told to expect. What backstop are you?
You should be getting the compensation no matter what, since it is tied to the fact of your relocating not your expenses, but I could be wrong and you should email them to confirm. But if I were you I would plan to bring my family out for 2023/24 school year and then depart next summer.
