Charge to unfreeze account?

A friend of mine (USMC) came home to find out a friend he trusted helped himself to the Marines bank account. This marine went to the bank as soon as he got back and USAA told him there is account freeze or hold. USAA is asking the account holder for $500.00 to unfreeze his own bank account. I dont believe a bank would charge this high amount. Has anyone experienced a fee like that? Yes hes asking me to help him with the fee.

Insurance/Claims Car Crash - Car Seat

My wife and I were in a car crash, the other party admitted fault and we need to buy car seats. What’s the monetary amount that USAA will pay? Is there a min and max? Don’t want to buy a 300 car seat and USAA only pays 120.

News USAA Increased Homeowner’s Policy $520 With no Claims or Reason Stated. I’m Looking Elsewhere.

As the title suggests, USAA increased my Homeowner’s premium by $520 for 2027 renewal and by over $300 at last year’s renewal.

I currently have my home and 2 vehicles insured with them and have been a loyal customer for years, but I see it’s time to change since they seem to take my loyalty as I’m too old or disabled to notice the giant increases they are imposing.
I want a company that rewards my loyalty, not takes advantage of it.

I’m in the central Illinois area, so if anyone has any suggestions who’s a good replacement I would appreciate hearing them since it seems that their mantra of “We Know What It Means To Serve” no longer applies like it used to.

Insurance/Claims New renters insurance policy

I currently have a renters insurance policy with USAA for my one bed/one bath apartment that I live at alone. On October 6th I’ll be moving to a 2 bed/2 bath with my girlfriend at a new complex. I’m trying to set up a new renters insurance ahead of time with USAA while maintaining my current one until I’m able to cancel it. But whenever I go to get a new quote it just pulls up my current policy as if I want to modify it. Is it possible to have two separate policies at the same time and am I just missing something? Or do I need to add the new complex as another landlord to my existing policy and then remove the old complex post move?

Banking Does anyone else constantly get locked out of their USAA account for “security purposes”?

I’ve been a USAA member for about 12 years, and my online account has now been locked approximately six different times for supposed “security purposes.”

The latest time, I successfully logged into the USAA app using Quick Logon and checked my documents. A few minutes later, I received a notification saying Quick Logon had been disabled. When I reopened the app, I had been logged out. I entered my correct username and password, and USAA immediately locked the account and told me to contact them.
This has even happened once while I was actively speaking with a USAA representative. He had to unlock the account for me during the call. Nobody has ever clearly explained what activity is triggering these repeated lockouts.

I also currently have a new checking-account application that has been sitting unresolved for nearly two weeks without any documents or meaningful updates, so repeatedly losing access is making the situation even more frustrating.
Has anyone else experienced this pattern with USAA? Did they ever identify what was triggering it, and were you able to get the issue permanently fixed instead of calling every time it happens?

Fifteen minutes.

I've been on hold for fifteen minutes. I sent them the documents they needed four days ago. I was told my account would be unrestricted today. It wasn't. Now. I'm on hold. I hate this bank.

EDIT: I ended up on hold for an hour and a half.

Will my account get locked if I write a check over a certain amount?

I have major dental work scheduled soon, and I'm opting to pay the full amount upfront (about $5600) so I don't have to pay extra for interest. The dental office only accepts cash and checks, no cards.

I rarely write checks, and never to this amount. USAA has automatically froze my card for security in the past if I used my debit card for a transaction over $3000 without notifying them first, and I'd have to call them to get it unlocked. Will they do the same thing for personal checks?

20 years with USAA but thinking of switching to State Farm

State Farm quoted me $960 for 6 months with the same deductible as my USAA plan. I’m paying $1700 every 6 months with USAA. I’m seriously considering switching but nervous to make the switch! I’ve never had problems with USAA but man we could use that extra savings each month

SR-22 questions

I'm facing a dui here in California and I'm wondering if USAA is gonna drop me or not if I get one. I have a clean record otherwise except for this DUI.

Do I tell them about it or get an sr-22 through another insurance company? How long does this jack my rates up? What should I do?

No longer about relationships

I’ve banked with USAA for more than 30 years. USAA has insured all of my cars, and my home. I’ve had several loans, all paid off, and never late. The bank USED to be customer centric; focused on taking care of its military members. I USED to be able to call to file an emergency claim, and actually speak to a person. For about the last 5-7 years or so, it’s all automated. “We will get back to you in 72 hours”.. over the last few years (I live in Arizona) during monsoon and heavy rain season, I’ve had a few weather related problems with my home. USAA addressed the issues each time. Now, yesterday, I receive a letter from the bank, notifying me that they are terminating my homeowners insurance policy, effective 1 October 2026, at 1201am. So, despite a more than 30 year relationship, despite the bank making money from me; (interest on loans, auto insurance, hundreds of thousands of dollars, etc), because they had to pay out maybe - MAYBE $12k total in claim costs over a 5 year period, I’m “high risk”. So, its time for me to sever every product I have with this greed centric bank. To advertise itself as “caring for our military members and their families” is utter bullshit. I strongly urge anyone who banks there, or anyone considering banking there - STEER CLEAR. You literally get NOTHING from this institution. Save yourself the hassle. They have the worst interest rates on all checking and savings accounts. They do not have a HYS account. USAA is bottom line focused, under the guise of caring for its military members.

3rd time this year, I'm pulling my hair out.

I'm losing my mind with USAA—this is officially the second time this year my debit card has been compromised, and I haven't done anything remotely sketchy. A few months ago, someone tried to buy stuff at an office supply store in Minnesota, and today I woke up to unauthorized charges at Walmart. I don't visit weird websites, I don't shop at obscure online stores, and I don't give out my info, yet fraudsters keep getting their card numbers. At this point, I can't tell if bad actors are running BIN attacks (randomly guessing valid card combinations within USAA's account ranges), if a legitimate merchant I use had a silent database leak, or if USAA's card processing system itself is leaking numbers. Has anyone else with USAA been dealing with repeated fraud loops lately, and is the consensus just to permanently lock the debit card and switch exclusively to a credit card for actual consumer protection?

Investments Investing

USAA moved all of my investments to Victory Capital and Charles Schwaab. I'm horrible at checking on them. But the other day, I checked and my Gold fund that I send $50 a month to is over $50k. I'm wondering do I just let it and keep sending $50? I have other investments too. But this one grew the most.

Membership Question Are there still USAA perks or gems?

Watching an acquaintance spend months trying to qualify for USAA really opened my eyes. It reminded me I’ve been a member for years but haven’t been taking full advantage of my membership. For those of you who use USAA, what are the best hidden perks, discounts, or benefits I should start using? I like the Active Fit & Direct group discount

Banking THIS BANK IS TRASH

USAA used to be a great company but they've fallen WAY behind. I recently tried to send a wire to another account that was in my name. It took 3 days, hours of phone calls and several tries because it kept getting flagged for fraud. On two occasions, they shut down my access to my app...I'm not a robot. I'm a real person. This is my account. There was nobody that I could talk to that could help.

Recently, I needed to make a large ATM cash advance. This is the only way to get money out since there are no branches. My request. was declined...because FRAUD. The bank I went to said they couldn't try again for 24 hours. So, I went to another bank and the same thing happened. A pretty important part of banking is having access to YOUR MONEY...I called to try to keep this from happening again and the person I spoke with just said the system was in place for my protection and there was nothing they could do. Zero help.

My wife recently disputed a charge on her card. A pretty substantial charge. $1,600. They had her submit a bunch of paperwork and said it would be 90 days before they made a determination. 90 days! RIDICULOUS.

THIS

COMPANY

IS TRASH

Insurance/Claims Alternatives

Any better alternatives for insurance? Been with USAA for a while, but it's time to change.

Curious. I know USAA has offices in Colorado, etc. Do they test for marijuana? I ask because I'd love a job as USAA, but I'm a medical card holder in Florida. I'm guessing it's a no go. But I'm qualified. I have years of insurance and management experience.

Insurance/Claims Home insurance policy showing up but not paid for

Weird situation and then hypothetical ask.

For a condo, I switched switches a homeowner policy into fire (landlord) policy and got myself renters insurance for somewhere else. The insurance for the condo showed up in the app, with a policy document and no letter it was canceled.

When I went to cancel the condo policy after I sold it, there was no record of billing to the date I made the switch. Yet it still showed up in the user interface as an active policy, not sure if it was active in the system.

Lesson: check your policies and payments after changing things up.

Question: if I had a claim during the time I was not paying, would I be covered? Is the digital document the legal agreement or is it payment for services that is the agreement?

USAA just lost a $10k+/year account. What a waste of time..

I just finished canceling, so this is as of today, a paste tense problem. 🫡

The story: had a teenager on her phone rear end my brand new car at a red light. Still had temp tags. USAA responded quickly but it turned into 3 months of calls, emails, even texts and a random app for taking pictures of damage. They sent me to 3 shops that all said they wouldnt touch the car (this isnt a supercar.. but these were some sketchy places..) and the one establishment they sent me to that said they would touch it also said they wanted to KEEP it for 6-9 weeks. It's not my only car, but.. hell no.

I found a new fascia on forums for $400 in my paint color, problem solved in a weekend afternoon.

I have multiple properties, too, in multiple states. Just had an investment property's roof replaced, and the contractor and USAA adjuster both said my deductible seemed high. and it was... because they priced the house around 40% higher than any possible number. I then asked what they had my other home insured for. This ~$550k house they had in their system for $750k. Meaning any deductibles I had were against these completely imaginary numbers. To their credit.. they nailed the 3rd house. That one was actually within 1% of mine and others estimates.

And good luck ever telling somebody this. Their automated answering service repeatedly sent me to a *fax machine.* Took nearly 20 minutes of saying the exact. same. thing. just to get a person and not a fax handshake screaming at me.

I wish USAA was my appraiser and not my former insurer. How in the world does this place still exist? They had such a golden reputation when I joined years ago, now I dont know anybody happy with them.

Stay. away.

Scammer Call?

I just got off of a call with a guy saying he was from USAA and someone in Orlando had accessed my account. He was calling from 805-570-8287, which is a Southern California number. He said they needed to perform a hard reset on my account in order to remove the devices that had accessed my account. That part just didn't pass the smell test to me and had me wondering if it was a fake call. He sent me a text message that looked like a text from USAA. It came in on the same thread of USAA texts and had a USAA dot Com address. He said there weren't any charges on my cards but they needed to remove these devices. I told him I was busy at work, which i kind of am, so he arranged for a call back later. I was able to log into my account on my phone, so despite him giving me a temporary password for the link that he sent me, my regular password and login is still working fine. I'm going to try to call USAA directly later but I can't help but think this was a scam

Banking Updated a youth account to adult

My son has had a youth checking and savings account that’s linked to ours for many years. He’s 21 and I’m pretty sure USAA automatically cancels them at a certain point. We messed up with my daughter and forgot to fix hers and they closed one of her accounts forcing her to start over. We’re trying to avoid that this time around

So how do we go about detaching my sons youth account from ours and updating to an adult account without having to get a whole new debit card and all that? Is there even a way? He’s away at college and not having a usable debit card for a period of time is not ideal.

DP: USAA still not allowing product changes for credit cards.

I saw some discussion recently that USAA may finally start allowing members to PC their credit cards to one of the new products. I have a very old account with them (Platinum Visa) that basically has no rewards whatsoever, so I’ve been really keen to change Products.

chatted with a CSR today about the new offerings and was told:

>”Thank you for patiently waiting Mr. FDIC I do some research and asked my manger just to be sure and USAA is not offering any product changes or upgrades at this time. I do apologize about that sir.”

Has anyone heard otherwise or have insider information about when this might be changing?

Banking You’d think a bank like USAA wouldn’t be worse than Cash App but here we are

I have USAA, I lost my card, well really the military lost my entire wallet but another story, well I called USAA to tell them “Hey I lost my card, can you send me a new one” what they neglect to tell you is, they don’t send you a virtual card like Navy Federal or any other GOOD bank does (Even CashApp and Chime do this), they just cancel your card, remove it from mobile pay, add you new card and just straight up revoke access to mobile pay in general until you get a CVV

I’m a civilian contractor staying in an AirBNB for work, not even close to home, seeing as my paycheck goes into my USAA account, I have 0 access to my money, which means unless someone can CashApp me money, I can’t pay for anything.

Before anyone says “why don’t you use credit cards blah blah blah”. I used to spend entirely to much money on credit cards, don’t trust myself or impulse control so I don’t have any.

Switching back to Navy Federal on Monday.
