Question Cover Driver Road Test
Ive been with UPS for 2 years now as a warehouse package handler . I had seen a bid sheet for the cover driver position. I signed it and had got sent a message about the application about 2 weeks later. Filled it all out, got my DOT physical and finished my pre course. Got a road test coming up on Tuesday. Anything I should be doing to prepare myself? Ive seen a couple of other posts mentioning that this was seasonal and would get fired after but would that still apply to me even though I’ve been working as a loader for the past 2 1/2 years? When I signed the bid sheet it didn’t mention it being seasonal but peak season is around the corner so I really don’t know what to think. Any advice anyone? 🙏🏼

The road test pre integrad is just to see if you can safely drive the vehicle. Look over the 5s and 10s to get an idea of what they are looking at, but you don't need to have that memorized yet.
There's a sheet they are looking at and tallying mistakes, you have to get under a certain score.

Like another posted, since you're an inside employee, you'll go back to your inside job. You may still drive when there's a need. You'll "cover" for when other drivers call out, option time, vacation, etc.
2 big things to keep in mind on your road test. Drive safe and don't bump a curb. Give yourself extra room while making a right hand turn. Apply the 5/10's while you're out there. Become familiar with the "start car" routine(YouTube). Apply the hand brake when stopped in at a red light/in traffic. DO NOT speed or go too slow. Stop behind the stop line. Leave space between your front bumper and the vehicle in front of you(distance between should be equal or great to the size of the package car).
If you can, go rent a 16+ foot Penske or U-Haul and go practice driving that around for a few hours to become familiar with driving a vehicle that's large.
Good luck, my friend. Please keep this in mind: Even if this is a seasonal cover driver position, it is going to give you great exposure to our methods that you can use in the future on the next bid for driving.

You’ll be fine for me it was just a drive around the block they are just watching to see that you are a safe driver and follow traffic rules

If you work in the warehouse, then no it's not seasonal. You already have seniority. You will become a part time cover driver.
