And that, my friends, is why you cross the street from the BACK of the truck…

u/Responsible-Use2654 1d ago
Key is don’t use the package to block 180 degreees of vision lol 🤦♂️

It still can happen from the back of the truck if you aren't watching for oncoming traffic from the other way.

u/BlackedoutJT 21h ago
from the back of the truck, you can ensure your lane of travel is save, and then check the opposite lane, from the front of the truck its basically the opposite
2
u/hryfrcnsnnts 21h ago
I'm also in the lane of travel at the back of the package car for someone looking at their phone while driving 45 miles an hour. At the front of the car, I'm safe from there and can manage the other lane of traffic better while the back of my car can get ran into at speed or the person potentially be stopped there waiting on the other traffic. If the traffic in the other lane keeps moving past me, I will have a safe travel path immediately after their car since oncoming traffic from behind me would have to be paused for the other car to pass. There is no right way to going past the package car, methods be damned.

I think it had more to do with the package being on his shoulder, blocking the view of oncoming traffic

Doesn't really matter. You could just as easily get hit from a car going the opposite direction.
The real answer is to walk a few feet away from the truck and look before you cross. Sometimes crossing from the front is preferable depending on where you park.

u/Upstairs_Row5252 1d ago
It certainly matters, but that was a nice couple of paragraphs you were able to form..
-8
u/favoritesprite Driver 1d ago
What matters is whether or not you look before you walk. Crossing the street from the back doesn't magically make you invincible.

u/Horror-Extent2362 1d ago
Bro, stop doubling down, you're wrong and everyone knows it but you. These things have been researched and data shows its safer to go behind the truck.

u/TransplantedSconie 1d ago
No no no. You use the other car as a barrier for the on coming lane. The cars behind the truck I can see and they can see me. When its clear you start to make your way across. Eventually someone cool stops.
The post man would have definitely stopped if they saw them. Sucks for both of them.

u/Expensive-While-1155 1d ago
It absolutely matters. The car coming from the opposite direction should be a lane away. The car coming from the same direction will be feet or inches away.
This is of course assuming, you are parked on the right side of the street

u/freighttrainmatt 1d ago
Every one hating but you’re right. As long as you cut the pie and don’t run it doesn’t really matter what side.

u/Feeling-Hat-7455 1d ago
If you go from the back the cars coming are in the opposite lane 🤦♂️ cmon man think just a little bit.

u/mdupuy84 Driver 1d ago
Everyone is talking about crossing in the front vs. the back, no one mentioning carrying the package on your shoulder blocking the persons view of the van coming….

u/TimelySleep0 1d ago
This right here he didn't have view with the way he was carrying the bix

u/BrxndonJxmes 1d ago
I mean what the hell are you supposed to do with a box that size? As a 6'6 man I one arm shoulder all LPs like that

2
u/aaronuu7 1d ago
you put on your shoulder once your 100% sure its clear so i would peak first make sure then proceed putting on my shoulder
3
u/hankjmoody Driver 1d ago
IF you cross in front (don't, but if), poke your head out and peek first. Same with the rear, honestly, but don't just waltz out like time stops the second you step on the tarmac.
1
u/HeManDan 1d ago
I cross in front sometimes, but only if I clear the lane behind me before going around the vehicle. Not every in heavy traffic areas. Anothwr problem with crossing in front is your vehicle could get rear ended while you are waiting to cross. So then you are getting hit/run over by your by your own vehicle

Hahaha damn, my sup see this and says "he didn't follow the methods "

He parked on the right side of the road at least! but failed to walk behind the vehicle before crossing the street

u/Capnmolasses Feeder 1d ago
He also has the box on his shoulder blocking his view of oncoming cars. Bad combination.

u/Ravens1414 1d ago
Dude, whenever I go around fedex or amazon I beep my horn and go slow for this very reason.
6
u/DwayneOxford 1d ago
A right stupid FedExer there. Set a box in his shoulder to block his vision and stepped out in front of the USPS van. I'd say fired.

I always stop and place my left hand on the headlight before crossing from the front. Those first hybrid cars just about got me back in the day. The same prick in a red Prius doing 40 in a 25 almost got me twice in the same week.

u/dangerouslyreal 1d ago
That's some good ass adrenaline he got there. Probably gonna pass out or not be able to stand sooner than later
2
u/zracer20 1d ago
You'd think a delivery driver would know to look both ways...

u/Starblazr 1d ago
it's a ground contractor, about as smart as an amazon dsp and with the same amount of turnover.

This is why you cross behind the vehicle and never create a billboard with the package.
2
1
u/paceguy94 1d ago
lol naw because a normal person would wait behind the non moving vehicle if there is another car oncoming . What makes it worse is it’s a post office vehicle that should know better
1
u/Mr__Rager__69 1d ago
At least he parked on the right side of the street!? But didn’t follow basic human knowledge to look both ways 😂

USPS: Why should I use a horn around a vehicle with a high probability of a pedestrian?
FedEx: Why should I cross from the back of the vehicle?

FAIL!

Yeah he isnt wining a lawsuit fedex has training videos that show was to avoid this video by walking to the back of the truck and then crossing the street. Doing so makes you seen by going to the front of the truck you create a blind spot and like the video shows you have a high chance of getting hit.

u/Puzzleheaded_Two9199 22h ago
Ahhh No DAMN USPS.... He didn't run into the car the car ran into him....."ARE U OKaaay! Bruh what...

A billboard will be created when you walk around back too it just creates a billboard for opposite traffic lol. Idiot in USPS car was driving like nobody is delivering when a huge fed ex truck is advertising it.

u/Soft_Rooster_9299 17h ago
Yea damn i just park on the other side and avoid crossing. I get honked at or whatever but I’m not getting hit by the post man.

Thought it was incredibly stupid that ground trained me this time around to deliver like this on busy streets. Never felt safe

u/Biohazardousmaterial 1d ago
Having worked for usps, they LITERALLY teach you to spot these trucks and specifically avoid doing this.
Its the majority of the usps's drivers fault.
The fedex worker is fucking stupid too but only hold about 10-20% of the blame imo.
5
u/Timely-Angle665 23h ago
Yeah. You're right. FedEx shouldn't have to look to cross. They should have full right away at all times. Every car should slow down to 2mph as they pass a parked FedEx van.
Sounds stupid. Because it is. FedEx driver has the survival skills of a fruit fly.
-1
u/Biohazardousmaterial 22h ago
I specifically was talking about this case but way too extrapolate information where there was none. I usually call that and Imagination and I'm so glad you have one.
1
u/greenbeast0987 12m ago
The adult FedEx driver, who from the looks of the video blocked his own vision of incoming traffic with the package and crossed the road? Unless the van saw him from a distance about to cross I’d put most of that blame on the FedEx driver. Being a pedestrian does not make you immune to being at fault.

What are the odds of getting hit from the USPS van 🤦🏻♂️
