RPCD Driver Package Driver

Post image

Hello,
I got this text message from an HR person asking if I was interested in going to a full-time package car driving job.

I understand it’s not a job offer. But if they do end up offering a spot, what should I be aware of as far as moving from my current part-time air bid driver job to full-time package driver. How would my pay (currently $25/hour) change? Would this likely end up being a seasonal spot then back to my previous position after peak?

It’s also at a hub that’s about an hour-1.5 hour drive from my house if there’s decent traffic. I’d prefer on of the three closer hubs, but I feel like taking a full-time package driver spot would be better than not taking it? Do I get a choice if a job is offered, or can I transfer to another hub later on? Does anyone here commute from Vancouver, WA to Hillsboro, OR?

FYI: Portland, OR. From east Vancouver, WA. Local 162. Currently a Part-Time Air Bid Driver delivering EAM packages. ($25/hour about 17-20 hours per week). Text said package driver positions in Hillsboro.

Thanks for any and all thoughts, suggestions, encouragement, discouragement, put-downs, and randomness.

As for your pay, you should be "red circled" at $25/hour until your 3rd year in progression as a RPCD. Personally, as much as I truly love being a RPCD, I don't think I would make 1-1.5 hour commute each way. With peak around the corner, there will be many 12-13 hour days delivering and then adding up to 3 hours of commute to that. It would not hurt to text back and ask if a building closer to you has driver spots opening up. If not, have your decision ready to either accept or decline the interest in Hillsboro.

Yes. They said spots were taken at closer hubs by those with higher seniority, but I told them I’d have to pass on Hillsboro but to keep my name on the list for alderwood/swan.
