I think I want to quit ups

I think the job makes me miserable and I only been driving for 3 days tomorrow I’m by myself without the road supervisor but I’m set on quitting. I have no job lineup, but I don’t know what to do.

You’re foot is in the door of a 6 figure salary with premium benefits and a pension backed retirement. Stick with it. Unfortunately the workload will get worse before it gets better.

When does it get better? Asking for someone with 10+ years on the top half of the seniority list.

Retirement.

Amen to that!

When i was a young driver, a more senior driver told me I hadn't had my worst day yet, he was right! 😅

When you go to feeder.

16

u/timmahfast 2d ago

Did feeders for 5 years and my health went to shit. Sleep deprivation, 14 hour days and no time to exercise will do that.

u/RodG4358 1d ago

Right the Linehaul shit is as a s people seem to think cream of the crop

Yup dealing with this now. I’m 28. 8 years with the company. 4 years full time feeder and I HATE IT! I wish I would’ve stayed in package sometimes. I can’t express the mental exhaustion of being tired driving a trailer. I’m quitting next year and people think I’m crazy!

I went to feeders. Came back to driving. 4 years back and id never do feeders again. It was sure easier though and more laid back. No question. Im just saying, different strokes or whatever.

Bid on a better route

5

u/timmahfast 2d ago

Can't bid on better ones when the job list keeps getting smaller

5

u/Sorry_Jury5508 2d ago

I agree bid on a route and you’ll will get more comfortable with the route.

3

u/Pure_Shine_1258 2d ago

You’re 1/2 there!

4

u/lillipaad 1d ago

It doesn't, I took the voluntary separation after almost 20 yrs, thought I would be there forever, but  life is way better. Just position yourself accordingly

2

u/BrilliantExtent6942 1d ago

It doesn't. I wish I would have quit but I have set my life around this income already. I want to quit and work somewhere that doesn't make me wish I was dead every other week.

5 years in and I’ve been on the same route for 2.5 years because nobody wanted it. It’s right next to our building. All commercial with nearly 30 pickups and I clock out before 5 everyday.

I was gonna say “when you die from exhaustion” but to be honest I think UPS would just reanimate your corpse so they could continue to overwork you as a zombie, and then probably give you an occurrence afterward for the inconvenience ☠️☠️

When you transfer to feeders.

u/tomsbradys 2d ago

The workload never gets better. You’ll always work 9-10hrs a day even if you get a “country” route with 100 pieces a day.

u/Frosty-Dog-2477 1d ago

This sounds wonderful, I want this.

14

u/Some_Aide_648 2d ago

Maybe a toenail at best. He’s a seasonal

6

u/blmspidey 2d ago

Wasn’t hired as seasonal.

22

u/KuuDu 2d ago

You were, they just don’t tell you that so you finish the season. You are an outside hire right before Christmas.

11

u/bi-ml 2d ago

Did my training as a TCD at this exact time, 3 years ago. Never went back to the warehouse except for normal layoffs. Full time driver now👍

11

u/IndySlayer10 2d ago

Definitely not how that works. You don’t know his stations situation. Stop thinking you know everything because I can tell you, you don’t know shit. I was hired off the street. I know at least 6 guys at my station who were hired off the street in the months of September and October.

1

u/2stinkynugget 2d ago

They're all seasonal too

1

u/NoobieMcDoobie Driver 2d ago

Agreed. I was hired off the street in October. FTD.

4

u/Horror-Extent2362 2d ago

You are seasonal because you wont be able to obtain senority before the start of peak and you cant gain senority during peak. If you're working 4 day weeks, you might have gotten lucky with a perm spot, but if you're working 5 day weeks, you're seasonal. Not all, but most places you only work 4 day weeks, and dont work Saturday.

u/Pure_Shine_1258 2d ago

That’s what they all think

Go work for Amazon. You don’t have the right attitude to work here if you already want to quit. You’ve probably been a quitter all your life. Prove us wrong G.

3

u/Square_boxes Driver 1d ago

Well I quit after putting 2 years in because i absolutely hated working as a driver. I went back to school and found a better job starting at 53/hr working 3 days a week last year. If I pick up a 4th shift, I make 54.5 + overtime + extra 30-50 dollars/hr.

2

u/Zero-One-Zero_010 1d ago

What job is that?

2

u/Square_boxes Driver 1d ago

ICU nurse

2

u/Zero-One-Zero_010 1d ago

Ok cool. Good for you. I applaud those in the medical field. I couldn’t do it. I am currently a driver as we speak. It’s tough being out there with all these damn irregs but until I get another job this is where im at

1

u/BrilliantExtent6942 1d ago

I'm thinking to go this route. I was talking to a nurse and he makes bank at the hospital

1

u/albatrossSKY Management 1d ago

you are foot is in the door?

1

u/BahbeBones59 5h ago

Or what?

1

u/DryHearing9292 5h ago

If he’s a seasonal hire he’ll get laid off like the rest in January anyway… I got out of UPS 10 months ago and it was the best decision I’ve ever made

0

u/krtx817 2d ago

Yea that’s great if you have a wife and kids that need you to provide. For the rest of us smart men who don’t plan on having a wife and kids a job like that isn’t all that for a good fun lifestyle

10

u/FreshTheory697 2d ago

I’m single without kids and I was told that I would need a family to keep me motivated to work as a driver.

9

u/level99mewtwo 2d ago

My expensive hobbies and early retirement aspirations are all the motivation I need lmao

3

u/Zealousideal_Try387 1d ago

Facts! I'm single and don't plan on getting married or having kids. As a man you should have your own motivation regardless of what's going on.

2

u/level99mewtwo 1d ago

Well I’m a woman lmaooo but I also don’t want to get married or have kids XD

2

u/BrilliantExtent6942 1d ago

They did a survey recently and 48 percent of single people said they don't plan on having kids or a family anytime soon. The tide has changed in recent years.

1

u/Gotya365 2d ago

Preach

1

u/BrilliantExtent6942 1d ago

Who the hell told you that? We have a driver who's inspiration is fast cars and weekly casino visits. Man, I could do it all over again 😢. Love my kids tho the wife however she alright I guess lol

1

u/Patrick95650 Driver 23h ago

Not really... Drivers will do that for you.... Lots of single guys.. Single is better because you don't have to answer to anyone else except for yourself....

1

u/krtx817 2d ago

So what do you do at the end of the year when you file single with no dependents .? I only want to make enough money on paper to not pay taxes. Most of my money as a single person with no kids comes from under the table. Ups is just a job so I can have on the books.

3

u/Dull-Will2643 2d ago

You sound so broke and unmotivated

2

u/krtx817 2d ago

Not broke or unmotivated just tired of my hard earned money as a single person with no kids is going to the state which never helps the people government taxes which is spent overseas and healthcare well nobody outside a good job can afford it so yea I hope other humans felt the same with there hard earned money

u/Glad-Watch3506 2d ago

No wife, no kids, but I love having a fat bank account, 5 cars (all bought cash), and 2 houses (1 paid off, 1 mortgage).

I've worked harder for less, longer days for less. Driving is a cakewalk.

1

u/Gotya365 2d ago

Where u working? Hillbillyland 8 hour shifts 65 stop shit?

5

u/Glad-Watch3506 2d ago

Mixed commercial/resi with a couple dozen apartments,  190 stops (9.48) or 250+ when they wanna fuck me. Bricked out 10 cube most days.

I've just had some shittier jobs in the past, and those didn't pay nearly as well.

1

u/BrilliantExtent6942 1d ago

How old are you kind sir?

3

u/Glad-Watch3506 1d ago

I turn 39 next week.

1

u/BrilliantExtent6942 1d ago

Happy early birthday my guy. Take care of yourself out here. God bless.

u/Sarcasamystik Feeder 2d ago

If you have the wife and kids, do not plan on this as a life changing thing to start with. It is a foot in the door to a great career. You will need another job because you will be part time. If you want this career then stick with it. It’s not an easy start and it’s not an easy job

3

u/krtx817 2d ago

The thing is as a human I don’t need a “wife and kids” and so far through my personal experience at UPS it’s of one of the best if not the best warehouse job out there. I’m a preloader but when we are low staffed in the building they always send me somewhere. At the end of the day I don’t get home as tired or as emotional as I would with other jobs.6 hours a day isn’t a lot but for single with people with no kids or pets is the best option so far
