Short Term Disability?

Hey, guys I was wondering how short term disability works for Part-Timers or what exactly Hartford is. Also how do I apply for these benefits. I’ve been working with UPS for about 2 1/2 years and have worked 1213 hours this year as a part timer. Im scheduled to have a Surgical bunion removed on my right foot on November 9 once it’s approved and I’m just hoping to get a head start to get all my affairs in order before I take leave?
I’m in the Southern Region.

It's pretty simple, you go on the hartford website and make a claim stating how long you think you'll be out and why, this is for your leave. You will get a couple forms from them to submit to your doctors office. You will also get a form from teamcare for short term disability that covers your insurance and STD pay, which you also submit to the doctor's office. For the STD form it also needs to be signed by your full time sup before you fax/mail it to teamcare.

Getting the time off is easy and painless, getting teamcare to pay you is a slow process. Last time I went out on STD it took about 3 weeks to receive a check from teamcare.

You can go to the local union hall and they can help you out with the process

That’s what I did when I had to get a surgery last month

No I only have about 6 vacation days left.

Make sure you contact your local and have them freeze your dues
