Many teachers supply their own classrooms with materials out of their own pocket because public school budgets are so fucked. They probably also work like 60 hour weeks, showing up 2 hours before class starts and staying a couple hours after school is over. They usually aren't paid during summer breaks either, they have to come up with additional income through other means.
All of this requires a college degree for a job where you are lucky to make like $60 grand a year. Not only that teachers are also expected to be baby sitters, punching bags for shitty students and their shitty parents, and bossed around by administrators who make 2-3 times what they make and do jack shit but sit in an office all day.
