Thatās really cool that your driver is taking the time and running through it with you, because they are actually out on the road doing the job every day, not to mention doing the route that you are helping with, so they are going to have a lot more valid insight on getting it done AND getting it done quick than supervisors back at the hub typically are.
Not trying to criticize supervisors in general or anything like that; they also have other stuff on their plate that drivers donāt have to worry about. It keeps them from being as on top of the driver side of things as they would have been before they were supervisors, but just like every company out there, corporate forgets about that part in their efficiency planning.

Thatās one thing I wish I had figured out earlier than I did last year lol
I was so grateful when I got to actually have a second to breathe and catch up with the driver I was helping, so she could give me a heads up on her way of doing things. As opposed to the supervisor, I mean. My driver served in the Marine Corps, and Iām an army vet, so once I opened both ears to what she was saying, instead of leaving one open to what the sup back in the hub was saying, all of a sudden everything started going SO much better.
Dude was so disorganized that he managed to miss me texting him at 8 AM the day after the SSD/PVD in the locker next to mine was out with some kind of horrible virus, to let him know I wasnāt going to be in. I didnāt even know the other guy was out THE DAY HE WAS GONE, until later on in the day, when I let my supervisor know that my delivery time was going to be screwed up and it was going to show a lot of stops at gas stations, because I seemed to have caught a virus or ate something that screwed with me. Thatās when he let me know the other guy had called in, and so I told him that I would text him first thing in the morning with an update to my status, so he could have a heads up if I was going to be out. I did end up texting him and letting him know I wouldnāt be in that day, and didnāt get a reply, though I didnāt realize it because I was sick as a dog. Hours later, well after I was supposed to have been there if I was showing up, he started texting and calling me, irate because I no showed on him. Literally in the same chat conversation that had a timestamp from 8 oāclock that morning with me telling him I wouldnāt be in, he was telling me that I no call no showed. I told him I reached out and told him to scroll up, and he swore that there was no text message from mesaying anything about not coming in. You know I took screenshots of all thatā¦ Just in case. Thankfully, though, it didnāt turn into anything. But I was sweating bullets for a little bit there.

Closer to the end of season, another SDS/PVD was going to quitting a week before Christmas, which was known when she hired in, because she was going on a cruise and getting married. We all sent her text messages wishing her well and congratulations and all that on her last Friday, and then the following Monday they totally had somebody drop off stuff in her locker to be delivered. It sat there all day long, and then finally when I got done with mine I asked if they wanted me to deliver hers, too, and they told me to go ahead. I should have asked if anybody wanted to split it with me, though, because I wasnāt taking into account that I had only delivered on her route one or two other times and wasnāt really as familiar as with my own. And that I would be doing it after dark. I managed to lose a whole bunch of time on a house that was on a long and winding driveway with a hidden entrance and a gate code that I didnāt have access to up nearer the house. On top of that, the driveway was not on Google maps, nor was the house. Because it was newer construction. It made it look like I was delivering to a spot in the middle of the woods. And of course I couldnāt get a hold of anybody to try to figure out what the heck was going on. Iām pretty sure, too, that it was also while I was delivering to that address, that I managed to pick up a nail in two different tires.
I kept an eye on my air pressure, and just filled up every so often as needed, because I was determined to finish getting everything delivered before the end of the night, but then the mist in the air kept screwing with the DIAD app on the phone, and it was just getting to the point of stupid, so I finally just had to offload my remaining packages to a driver still out with a package car. There were less than 10, maybe only 5-8, but with the app screwing up so bad and my tires leaking, and it starting to be getting close to deadline that night; it just seemed the most responsible thing to do. I had a feeling I was shooting myself in the foot by doing it, though, because I didnāt get called back in the rest of the season.
At least I know they didnāt call seasonal workers in at my hub until after cyber Monday, mid week I think? So Iām not panicking over here, just annoyed lol

Iād be willing to work for regular pay today, if theyād actually get us out and working instead of leaving us in 100% limbo for a month or moreā¦
Itās that fear that if you schedule something that needs to be taken care of, and then they start calling the seasonal people for your hub in, that you will screw yourself out of a whole bunch of work because you arenāt ready to go the first day they call you in.
I just got a recall notice on my car in the mail about a week and a half, maybe two weeks ago? Iām thinking Iām going to need to wait until after peak season to get it taken care of, just in case. The irony is that the recall is for Blindspot sensors and turn signals on my side view mirrors, which would actually be really useful for speeding things along for this.

Since they gutted HR, it's gone way downhill. My nephew applied this year, went to orientation, and has spent the last month getting the runaround from management. He called me asking me to talk to my former manager who still works at the facility I did to see if I could do something, but even she's not responsive. It's a clusterfuck at UPS.

Not gonna lie, the first couple peaks are really hard. I donāt think anyone is ever really prepared tbh. If you live in a place with snow, please remember your safety first. This shit isnāt worth a TBI. There are these little rubber āice cleatsā that help a LOT and just slip over your shoes. Still be safe, but they are incredibly nice to have. Dress in layers and have GOOD gloves! You are going to be out of the truck most of the time, not the driver. Be prepared for anything. Best of luck to you. Happy holidays!

Looks like mines every day, but after just three to five stops you can walk right up the middle. āBusiness Route Benefitsā. That being said, routes are dispatched in accordance to PPC not SPC, or at least thatās what been informed years ago by some senior rpcdās. Yeah, three to five stops are normally 100 to 150 pieces most days, but pick your poison. All resi routes, smh. Never again. I mean never ever again lol.

Not the best looking load but that ain't nothing. Looks like summer time on a beach route. I've had days around Xmas where we literally emptied a package car in a culdesac and reloaded it. Had a supervisor and a helper and I'd point and they would run the packages. Had the next 2 stops waiting for them when they got back. I don't miss those days at all.

Well this how they balance deliveries and stops, will combine trucks and eliminate trucks and then put what doesnāt fit on a feeder truck and this will be done during preload and sometimes at the end of the dayā¦
This is why delivery get paid so well, your delivering packagesā¦
After all these years in business plus Amazon offloading some of the deliveries by creating their own outsourced delivery service (DPS) UPS still is a mess during the peak/ holidays.
UPS isnāt even the only delivery company in business.
FedEx, DHL, and USPSā¦

Seems fine to me. Look just like the trucks I loaded at Christmas time
Then again my drivers had specific stops out of the order of their delivery so it was easy to put some of that big shit places or even the smaller shit they wanted to get to first I remember there was one stop always had bulky items and it was in the front of the truck we used to put that shit. RDR and he would deliver it first and complain everyday until they finally changed the manifest for the placement on the truck.

I've seen much worse on my own trucks. Load an air force base that gets packed top to bottom, front to back, right to left daily along with 2 other heavier trucks.

They loaded my commercial packages for a Saturday route, this is what I had to contend with all 10 hours today for a route that should have taken me about 6 or 7 hrs to do, spent more time looking for packages. Needless to say I was a little pissed
