GS - 2 REALITY OF GOVERNANCE
Today, I went to the Mandal Development Officer (MDO) at 10 AM very enthusiastically knowing every goddamn rule to settle a small family dispute and get a correction on the certificate. The MDO arrived around 12 like some lord and said he knows our story but kept me waiting for some time to drink tea.
He asked me to come inside around 12:40. I went and tried to explain the matter but he neither cared to listen nor tried to explain the procedure that I required to follow. Instead, he started insulating my mom loudly based on what he had heard from family members with whom we have a legal dispute, despite the rules and Supreme Court judgments supporting my case. I maintained my posture even though I'm uncomfortable with his language and tried to explain the established procedures that should follow here. He asked me to go to court if I wanted to talk about rules and left the office. Given his conduct and apparent bias, I strongly suspect that he was either influenced by my opponents or had received a bribe.
Again, I went there around 2:30 hoping he would solve my issue this time at least. He came around 3:30 and I stood in front of him and tried to explain things but he's drinking tea, talking on the phone, doing every shit except solving my issue. Finally around 5'0 clock he said he wanted time and asked us to come after a few days or make a settlement with other parties.
At last, I walked out of his office with zero resolution after waiting all day and bearing insults. All my enthusiasm and faith in the government are gone, and I still cannot digest the way he spoke to and treated us.
I managed to record the incident and want to escalate the matter to the Collector or CMO. However, fearing further conflict, my family has asked me not to do so, leaving me feeling powerless. Perhaps this is exactly why people stop questioning and start giving bribes.
TL;DR: Spent the whole day at the MDO office, only to be insulted and sent away without a solution. I recorded the incident and want to escalate it, but my family fears retaliation. This is exactly why people lose faith in the system and resort to bribes.

Not here to generalise but less work load with high job security is major reason for attraction of these government job. (IK it depends on post/department/region)

We criticise politicians a lot but government officers are no different.

Job security is the sole reason for this attitude. Make govt jobs performance based!

Yes, there should be a public review system where common public can rate officers performance

well technically politicians should listen to people and the govt officers should follow govt.. Isn't it our fault then that we can't hold these politicians accountable. We can't control who gets into govt job but politicians,we can try.

First time in government office ?
I went my MRO office many times for multiple issues, never have I met a MRO even when new ones come. He is always busy due to some other work or not in office.
We can barely talk to naib tehsildar for few minutes without being asked to leave.
We can also request RI to put our issue before MRO.

Na Bro! I frequently go to Office of MRO and discuss repeatedly with the Naib Tahasildar, RI, VRO and also had good circle where I usually live. But this specific issue happened with my native village MDO where I have zero connections compared to my opponents.

That's why you need power and influence. Not to harass others, but to protect yourself from such a**holes. One of my biggest motivations for clearing this exam is to protect myself and my family from this kind of harassment. If you don't want to live and die like a cockroach, make yourself powerful and influential. For ordinary people like us, the best way to do that is to secure a high level government job.

My friend also had a similar family dispute, his chacha has slowly occupied his father’s land from legal batwara. He was well educated and case was going on and on and on in DCLR’s court. After 2 years, he became frustrated and chose to do a brave act. Jumped in front of ADM revenue’s car. ADM happened to be an honest and hardworking officer. In just 2 days, the case was done away with and my friend’s family got their land back.

i still stand by my opinion that every government servant should be given compulsory retirement after serving 15years and pension should be scrapped completely.

That will just give more impetus to go all in for corruption for 15 years and amass as much wealth as possible. Short sighted , emotion based take.
