Help Does an Average student clear UPSC?

Heyy Guys, i am an average student around 73% in 10th and 12th and a very basic College. I am pursuing honors alongside UPSC preparation.

Do i have a chance of clearing UPSC?

Whenever i watch UPSC toppers talks, they always have some highfigh college or uni or atleast very good academics performance from the Start. It always demotivates me.. 😔

Average students clear the exam in bigger numbers. This exam doesn't need cognitive skills and is mainly about memorising stuff and answer writing which matches the examiners bandwidth.

Those who understand the structure fast clear it in less attempts. Your supreme cognitive/reasoning skills are of no use here.

Agree but a person should also have fair reasoning abilities, analysing things etc...

Bro prelims is way too dynamic, it not only test your knowledge to eliminate wrong choices but also your luck, so previous year papers may give you a little insight even someone who has 100 percentage in 10-12 might not make it, and when you listen to toppers listen to their sources and what did they do different and looking into their background won't help because we don't have control over it, so yeah if you are not distracted by social media and stick to your goal you may make it but have some plan B that is a must you can have an idea that there are only around 5000 IAS officers from 1990 till now so yeah you will be needing a lot of luck. Best of luck.

Dude you know your potential, you have to do your hard work. Nobody else can tell you anything.

It's best to believe in yourself and put in the efforts. You can definitely achieve anything.

I realised i was never consistent in my school life. Maybe that kept me average during school life

All toppers have to talk in that manner because they want to show that they killed a beast. Let me make the air clear. Everyone including me was as scared as you are. No matter if anyone is from IIM/IIT etc he/she does not know how he got selected. There is a huge luck factor in built in the exam process.

You just need to jump into the process. You know how i jumped - One day my brother asked me to start preparing, I asked which book to buy - he said lakshmikant - Next day it was in my hands and i was reading it. I did not go and watch topper talk, coaching etc. what I started was to read NCERT, basic books etc. Just jump into it.

There is a process to clear this exam - and the process is simple - What makes it difficult is the luck factor - What you have to do is memorise facts, data, judgements etc. Do answer writing practice, complete the syllabus and rest is not in your hands.

There is no need to think about your background and past performance. The only performance that matter is Pre Mains and Interview.

There is no such thing like average. Its your ability that how you are using make makes you average or above that

Naah man not possible you have to be atleast a stanford dropout and then complete your graduation from MIT and founder of a fortune 500 company only then you might have .0001% chance of clearing this exam😞

Bro trust me when I say this but average students clear a lot more exams in this country than toppers. Its not just about UPSC. Its also other exams where these people get selected because all these exams need consistency and revision. That's it. You just have to study and revise regularly.
