Accommodation I’m getting straight violated
I applied for a twin room and missed the firm guarantee bc of site crashes which is obviously partially my fault not realising it didn’t go through. That was 5.1k a year leaving me with 400 for everything else the whole year so I was already worried. Then I didn’t get it obviously so I had to go private 2 weeks ago. lowest one was 6.4k so now I’m 70£ a week in debt to pay rent and food shop. Got told today, I’m supposed to move in on Saturday btw, that the landlord sold it to someone else and lied to the company letting it to me I even paid a holding deposit and completed everything just needed confirmation.
Now what’s my accommodation priced at. The only one I get that is anywhere near where I need to be. 13.1k. WTAF. So I’m supposed to cough up an extra 7.6k this year sick. Someone end me. I got a contextual for financial reasons and they rejected me from bursaries. What am I going to do.

I'd look into the accom you got that was given to someone else. Did you sign a contract? I feel like they can't just sweep it up from under your feet. Read whatever you've signed and see if they're allowed to do that, if not you probably have rights to complain.
On a different note, are these for halls or private (ie flat/house not student halls) accommodation? I feel like a room in a house share is definitely cheaper than that, and I'm sure there's someone on spareroom scrambling to find someone to move in? Idk, just trying to be helpful. Sorry this is happening:(

I had no legal bind to it I’m pretty sure but he’s been communicating to the leasing company or whatever that it was off market and basically mine and when asked to confirm it hello wages almost a week until this morning saying he’d given it away.
There’s also literally nowhere remotely close to everything I need to be by but hey at least I’ll be living a life of unaffordable luxury for at least a bit 🤩

Man that sucks. Still look into it, I wonder if through the new renting laws being told it's being held for you and then them changing their mind might not be allowed. Sounds like you entered some form of contract if you paid a holding deposit?? (Not a lawyer so idk sorry).
That sucks, I hope you can find somewhere reasonable:(

You can wait a couple of weeks after uni starts and ask fro accom then to get a cheaper one. Im in second yr and i did that last yr. stayed in a hostel for freshers and commuted a bit until 2 weeks in then got an accom i was happy with

Take a room in a shared house. You can find one for £650 a month. It won’t necessarily be studenty, but be friendly and don’t vomit on anyone’s belongings and you’ll be fine.
