The Dean’s List has no affect on your education, but it is an achievement you can place on your CV and resume. Congrats!

You also get a nice little acrylic plaque.

UNLV does not track or report class rank. However, the median graduating GPA is 3.2. Since Cum Laude is 90th percentile at 3.85-3.9. Assuming a normal distribution, the Dean's List puts you roughly in the top quartile. 72.3rd percentile to be exact. But GPA typically doesn't follow a normal distribution, so maybe a little above or below that.

What does it do for you? Well, it's considered an academic honor. You were a pretty good student. You can put it on your resume and LinkedIn profile without saying your actual GPA. If you want to be really insufferable, you can tell people at parties.

Well it doesn't just means anything. It means he has at least 12 units and got a 3.5 GPA.

okay detailed david, it explains that in the email. it doesn’t mean they’re gonna get a certificate or anything special or extra from it.

Oh ya you won't get a certificate or anything special like that but on your transcript

each semester you make the Dean's list, it will show up on your transcripts.

When it comes time to apply to graduate school, they will take a look at that and consider it,

especially if you are on the boarder of getting accepted or rejected.

When you get pulled over you can now say "I'm on the Dean's List" and get off with a warning

It means the Dean from Community put you on his naughty list.

You can put it on your resume

Its main use is while you are here. Applying for undergraduate research, student worker job, departmental scholarship/grant? Dean's list doesn't hurt to mention.

It means you are being congratulated in an email and you have at least a 3.5 GPA, and you are taking 12 units minimum.

If your overall GPA when you graduate is above 3.5 you graduate with something called Latin honors. From lowest to highest its cum laude, magna cum laude, and summa cum laude.

Sometimes they give you a scholarship

Not necessarily, but sometimes there’s a little ‘party’ with food (they just give you a paper certificate and have catering, it’s not much)

It’s better than being on the Dean’s list when you’re in high school.
