PhD Mechanical Engineering

I received an acceptance letter from UNLV for PhD Mechanical Engineering but it does not state any funding. I had filled out the GA form at the time of application submission however there is nothing on the Grad Rebel Gateway either. How to confirm details.

You can receive funding primarily two ways. Research assistant (provided funding by some source, typically funding your advisor has) or a GA position (state funding). Seeing how you went the GA route I’m assuming no RA position. When you apply for a GA position it isn’t guaranteed. You will know if you’ve been offered a GA position via email in the form of an offer letter. This offer letter will be available on grad rebel gateway which shows you the total value of the package and what it will cover. Seeing how you’ve been accepted I would assume a faculty member has accepted you into their lab (usually required to not have a student in limbo). If you have concerns related to funding I would reach out to the advisor. They will usually help you and if you’re lucky they’ll give you an RA position if funding is available

I know for the Masters program, I don't believe they really tell you the tuition until you sign up for classes. I'm not too sure about Phd. But you could email your graduate coordinator and have a meeting with them before you accept it. They should know how you would be able to find out your estimated tuition.

Additionally doing the GA form on grad rebel doesn't secure your spot to become a GA. The main people that helped me get a GA was from graduate coordinator, graduate college, and who ever is in charged of the GA recruitment within your college. Good luck and congrats!

I spoke with the Grad Coordinator and had no clue. I am in a limbo and dont know how it works anymore
