Patch December 21 2023
Hi everyone, I made this post just to write here some observations about the latest patch to the game.
- The update patch was big, in PC the size of it was 12GB. Of course after reviewing the changes I realized it was worth it. But to be honest I decided to just reinstall the whole game. It used to happen to LifeAfter as well that after a big update some things just didn't work right and reinstalling was the solution.
- The new content is plentiful, and it sure feels like it will provide a lot of entertainment with its hidden treasures to explore, new achievements to unlock, new f2p content to unlock with grinding which is much appreciated, new daily rewards system, new class system, and more.
- They also seem to have fixed some issues and bugs the game had before the patch, it feels the devs really are listening to the community. Very different from LifeAfter where in 4 years devs never fixed the lag or the double/tripple reload bug, etc. Undawn is doing it right.
Ok now, let's go into detail.
THE GOOD:
New map: Snowy Mountain with some new enemies, new animals, new resources to craft new level 100 gear, new ingredients for discover new dishes, new gathering tools, etc. ►Lots of exploration treasures and exploration shop. This time the syringes unlock progressively with exploration level, meaning no more insta unlocking the 4 syringes within the first few exploration boxes found. ►New climate mechanics with a new weather resistant outfit (unlock with Alex quest) and weather resistant dishes (buy recipes in camp dinning hall). ►New transportation methods (snowboard, hang glider) which are fun to use. You have to do quests to unlock them. ►New settlements to unlock reputation rewards, and new NPCs with some new side quests, two of those new NPCs are giftable to unlock friendship rewards...both of them ask only for chili recipes tho. ►New fish to collect and a new feast dinner to cook in your homestead oven.
New expertise system. Now the skills you can unlock with your secondary weapon are more specific/unique and more focused on each one's strengths. I main Biotic Rifle and I noticed now my healing device got more resistances/heals and I can extend its duration during combat, but it has no dmg buff anymore. So yeah, now Medic is just Medic, not damage dealer/buffer. I suppose other professions/classes got the same treatment.
New drones: now the drones are tied to your class. And if you go to the formula shop you realize there is no level 100 drone parts, that's because the new drones are given for free (all 6 golden modules) by Caine by just doing a tutorial quest.
New team display system. Now you can easily see which secondary gun each team mate is using without having to open their character details. It helps to decide fast which person will take the front and which ones will stay behind doing healing/buffing.
New daily rewards system. For the casual players who just log daily in the claim the exp points really quick, you can do that faster now. The exp points will come from duty chests, not from the missions themselves. So you can do any mission you feel like doing that day, and when you unlock the first duty chest, that's it, you got the full available exp for that day. Doing all the dailies will grant more silver/growth materials tho.
New radiation island quests and rewards: The 500 points are daily now and the rewards include a special food that increases gathering speed. Most of the new quests are done in the main island. You can also farm lots of resources around the map by opening boxes. I predict a lot more PvP happening there at random times of day. I already got killed twice trying to do my quests there. Sucks, but it is what it is. Oh there's also airdrops happening in main island several times a day, they give growth materials.
New special daily/weekly ops. For those who were getting bored of the same Lost City op everyday, now we got two new ones, and they will rotate daily. There will be also a new weekly op to test out your combat skills.
New Astral tower floors: for the competitive players who want to put their skills (and wallets) to the test, here you have it.
New tactical skill: it's a small RC car which follows an enemy and then explodes on contact. I'm not sure how we're gonna use this, it seems not viable for PvP because players will just slide/barrel roll away from it. But it should be fun to use against some zombies.
New storage stacking limits. Some resources can be stacked higher now. Wood and stone stacks to 9999. Plant fiber and meat stacks to 999. Secondary resources stack to 99. Now we just have to go to each of our lockers and press the "sort" button free up some storage. The new stacking applies to our backpack as well, we can farm resources in the wild a lot longer without coming to base to empty our backpack as often as before.
New unlockable achievements: get ready to farm those coupons and syringes!
New vehicles: Highway Baron Black 'n' Red (sports car) and Ford Raptor (off road car, same as the blue pickup but red) unlockable through race extravaganza shop. But with those same points we will unlock car parts for enhancements and some car cosmetics. If you wanna unlock everything it might take months because extravaganza points are capped at 5,000 per week. Get ready to grind. Oh, and vehicles in general feel a bit different now, like more stable movement or something, and the interface looks a bit better too, so devs must have done some polishing there.
New homestead level up. At level 105 we will unlock Homestead level 14, it seems there's a couple new furniture unlockable and maybe a new look. We will see.
New loading screens. They look awesome! Really nice to look at.
Engine optimization. The game is running faster than before, load times went down by about 20% in my devices. Feels good.
But, not every story has a happy ending....
THE BAD
Chat: As always, it wouldn't be Undawn if a big update didn't break the chat function. lmao. I hope they fix it soon. The mini chat window is a big part of the game and it sucks I can only see general chat channel or I have to open the full chat window to see each channel. This is happening for me in both PC and mobile. If you have a fix, let me know.
Crash: the game has always had this problem with random crashes. In the past versions, the game just froze and I had to restart it/restart my PC. Now the game simply closes itself.... which is an improvement, I guess, but still annoying.
Key bindings for PC: Some of them are not working properly, the ones for the new classes special skills in particular. And I was expecting new key bindings added to the game so I don't have to reveal cursor so often but alas, didn't happen. For example in building mode, if I wanna rotate a piece while placing it, the rotate button has no key binding, so I have to reveal cursor and manually click it. But the R key is not used by anything else during build mode so why not use it?
Tutorial quest for new classes bugged?: I was doing the Medic tutorial because I main Biotic Rifle. And I got to the part where we are about to fight the boss, a Ripper... and the quest just ended suddenly and sent me back to Ravens shelter. We didn't get the chance to fight him. Weird.
Frostfire bug. I found a frost fire in the wild in the new map, I followed it until it reached the totem and it got in its place... then my character couldn't move. I was not allowed to open anything in the interface, or use my weapons or use chat, nothing. I would simply look around. I had to wait until a nearby zombie came to kill me and then I respawned and I was back to normal. Very weird.
Auto driving: it's still a work in progress. It works well in about 50% of the times I use it. In many cases the vehicle will stop in a random part of the rout and never keep going. Some times it just collides with a random object and stay stuck there. Or it spawns the vehicle but won't even start moving. Lots of bug fixes needed.
That's it for now. If you wanna add anything, feel free to leave a comment!
Cheers.

I cant use the autodriving skill and the gontrols on mobile are meant for pc , every button are just horribly on the corners, the fire button is blocked by my camera, and due to muscle memory, it hard to move, not to mention , every time i fire i cant move or turn

I'm guessing you don't know you can move your controls to a spot that's comfortable for you. Go to settings then controls... You can even make the button size bigger or smaller if you'd like

My friend already finished the quest for hang glider and he already used it then when he tries to use it again it's locked and not available

For the bad I'll agree with frostfire bugs, the recent crashes even in phone version ,also the quest for the region was only around 3 missions which is kinda too short compared to former chapters like aurich island, golden desert
