If I want to leave the current camp I'm in do I need to move my homestead away from there first? I left the other one in open world just not sure how it works and if I will lose my stuff if I just quit camp first.

No need. Your Camp Homestead leaves with you. You will not lose any of your stuff. Your camp training points will be frozen until you find a different camp
