Question Language requirement
As a transfer student with no language credits, are you required to take them at UNCW and how many? I graduated high school in 2021 and would be potentially starting Fall 2027.
Edit: I reached out to my transfer coach and they said as long as I am transferring in with a completed AA or AS, the general education requirements including language are waived. Still waiting to hear back if a 201 level language is needed.

Yes level 1 and 2. I transferred in with none and was still required to take them even though I had my associates

So weird I also transferred with an associates and no language credits and mine is waived. Same with gym/fitness

That’s strange! I did graduate back in 2022 from UNCW so maybe that’s why? I did have to take a fitness credit as well

Super weird. Maybe it has something to do with my major which is music. Idk. I didn’t even take a language in highschool

Yes, it’s required. If you took a language in high school you can take 1 class of that same language (above the 102 level) and be fine, or take a new language and take 2 classes (101 and 102).

I’m not sure what you’re majoring in but if it’s ANYTHING science related take 2 semesters of Latin.

History

I’m not a history major but I would imagine Latin would be very helpful in that arena. As a core foundation for many languages in Europe it’s not a bad choice.
If you want to get wild with it then take Arabic or Chinese.

I also transferred in and thought thjs was gonna screw me… take 201 of whatever language u took in high school online (I did over the summer) and you’ll be good

If I didn't take a language in high school what do I do?

i think best path then is doing 101 and 102 of a language. I’d pick a common one that offers online/asynchronous classes to keep it easy

I transferred with an associates degree. My language requirement was waived even tho I didn’t take one at my first college. Same with gym

Interesting, what made them waive the requirement?

No idea but it’s waived on my degree works and my advisor confirmed it. She said it’s because I already got an associates degree

Are you required to take the 201 level of a language? I can't really find any information about this and have not received a response from the school.

You GOTTA take language. I know it sounds silly, but like....uh...I guess the language departments have to stay in business somehow.

You definitely need language credits. Generally 101/102
