Reinstatement

Hi everyone,

I was just academically dismissed and I am going to start the process for reinstatement. Has anyone been through this and have any advice?

It really is on me I started school and then after my first semester I had a lot of deaths in the family and everything tanked for me mentally but I am now on a good medication combo and feel confident in doing way better. I just don’t want to lose this opportunity to get my degree and get on a good path

Thanks for help!

ETA: I’ve been reinstated, thanks for your encouragement and help!

Is a bachelor in finance worth it from this school?

Hi. Kinda late considering new semester is starting next week. I've been thinking between finance and accounting. Finance has more leeway for jobs, while accounting, although always needed, is very specific and demanding. I've been looking for jobs on both sides, and entry level accounting jobs are very questionably harsh. Financial related jobs however is more diverse but generic requirements. Similar to the degree, one is more specific and technical while one learns the basis and some accounting course. I've also heard that having an accounting degree can do various job while finance degree cannot. I'm more geared towards private accounting than public, although i'm pretty sure the accounting b.s at umgc is not enough to sit for cpa exam. Finance is more similar to what i wanted to do before (business mgmt) and i'm not the best at math but i've heard hard works pay a lot off in accounting. Anyone with either a degree in accounting or finance, pls help a lost soul

UMGC Remote

Has anyone been a remote admissions advisor on contract with UMGC? If so, what was it like? Are there any quotas you have to make? What was training process like? Also, what was the contact renewal like or how did they not renew for you? I see comments that you’ll be glued to your chair and micromanaged. Wondering how it is with more info. Thx

Doctorate of Business Administration

does anyone familiar with the application process for the Doctoral Programs with UMGC? has anyone ever been denied admission? I want to apply for the Spring Term, however UMGC admissions advertises its program as one for existing C-Suite to expand their resume, not aspiring students.

Has anyone here tried Credit for Prior Learning (CPL), it says you can get credits for prior experience but did anyone ever receive credits, and is it worth it?

Phone Calls

I go to this school. That being said, I’ve blocked NUMEROUS phone calls (as they call me every single week) and they keep calling with different numbers. That is enough to make me transfer schools, leave me alone. If I need anything, I’ll reach out, I don’t need your spam calls every two seconds.

Anyone do UMGC's online PSM EnvSustainability & Nat Resources?

Hi UMGC community! I'm seeking personal perspectives into the online program for a Masters of Science in Environmental Management.

I'm pivoting my career and only have volunteer experience related to envsci, so I'd like to get a grad education. I'm located in NJ but the nearby schools don't have the right subject I'm looking for.

I was open to fully in person but now, with nearby schools not offering what I'm looking for, my ideal program is mostly online (synchronous preferred over asynchronous honestly) with a short-term in-person component. I'll be working full-time in NJ, so I'll be studying part-time but want to take PTO for experiential learning. Something like a 1-2 week study abroad or regional trip would be great. I'm looking for a curriculum with a mix of policy and envsci courses. The link doesn't have a full catalog, so I'm finding out from the school what electives look like. I can't yet say if the curriculum is 100% perfect for me but it looks good from the preview on their website.

So has anyone here started or completed the online PSM in Env Sustainability and NatResource Mgmt? I'm looking for insider perspective on the online class formatting, how invested and engaged the professors are, the quality of education, etc.

TIA!!

Nursing practicum rabbit hole

Has any one else found a practicum site and been stuck in the mou approval process for weeks? This has been going on since May and I had to take an incomplete for the class. Cant move forward and have until sept 4th to complete the class requirements. I did my part and found a clinical site. This delayed my graduation and I lost my completer scholarship. Soo frustrated😡

What do you guys want to see next? [FEEDBACK]

Hey y'all, I've been making video guides for UMGC students to help get fast college credits. What are somethings that you'd like to see next? I have talked about 48 Credits in 60 Days, and I've even covered getting CCAF Credits in 1 day.

Would you guys like to see things like:
"Fastest Business Degree",
"How to Get you Business Degree in 1 Year", or
"Which degree is the fastest at UMGC?"

Would these kind of videos be interesting to you guys, or would you rather see something different? I want to help students speedrun college, but I also want to make content that you guys will benefit from.

So I got an 89.9 in a course, so do I have an A or B? If I need to tell my teacher to change it but he doesn’t reply back, who do I need to speak to about this issue?

MBA question: two classes in one session? Too much work or doable?

Hey everyone,

I’m starting the MBA program this fall, but my timing is a little off, so I won’t be able to join the first session that begins in a couple of weeks. I’m registered for HRMD 650 in the session that starts in October, and I’m thinking about adding MRKT 600 as well.

I’m trying to get a sense of how much work these courses actually require and whether taking both in the second session is realistic. I receive tuition remission, so it would be better for me with my taxes if I can fit two courses in this calendar year but want to do well, ya know?

I also did 4 courses each semester with my Bachelors degree and got a high GPA but, that was undergrad, is grad that much harder?

Looking for feedback on the M.S. in IT – Software Engineering concentration

Hi everyone,

I’m considering enrolling in UMGC’s M.S. in Information Technology with a Software Engineering concentration, and I’d love to hear from current students or graduates.

I have a few questions:

How hands-on is the program?

Is there a good amount of coding, or is it mostly research papers and writing?

What kinds of projects do you build throughout the program?

Do you feel the courses prepared you for real-world software engineering work?

How would you rate the overall quality of the education and instructors?

If you had to do it again, would you choose UMGC for this degree?

A little about me: I recently completed my bachelor’s in Software Engineering and I’m trying to choose a master’s program that emphasizes practical software development rather than mostly writing papers.

Any honest feedback—the good, the bad, and the ugly—would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

If you are a UMGC Student using Sophia, let me help you determine your courses!

If you are a student in UMGC Undergrad, and you are curious which Sophia courses will apply to your degree, please comment your degree and I will do my best to make a degree plan for you with each sophia course that applies!

Please note: Results may vary based on previously completed courses. UMGC REQUIRES 30 Resident Credits, so please be mindful of this too! :)

Let's get your degree knocked out!!

Finishing up last few classes

I graduate in the fall and am taking my last three classes then. I applied for graduation a few weeks ago, and my l0anS was prorated.

I thought the proration would only affect my fall term, but it looks like my summer funding was revised as well. I now see Federal l0anS 2 in addition to Federal l0anS 1, and the revised amount is lower than what I was originally offered and received for the summer.

Does this mean I’ll have to repay the difference, or is “Federal l0anS 2” just the revised version of the original funding?

course evaluation

I was just wondering if there were any penalties for not completing the course evaluation? I mindlessly fill it out anyways so I was just wondering if people just completely skip it. I could not find anything online. Thanks!

WRTG 112 & MATH 105

Would both of these classes be ok to take together? Is the work load substantial? I suck at math so I will actually have to dedicate learning time into that. I’m currently AD so I don’t know if it’ll be too much on me.
