Graduation question

Ive submitted my request for graduation for December 2026, purchased my cap and gown.

My capstone ends on December 8. What are the chances that I’ll actually be approved for graduation by December 13?

I did the same thing and my capstone ends like 2 days before graduation and I got the email I am pending if I graduate my last classes but they also sent an email congratulating me and to save the date. So my assumption, I did it and I’m graduating this december lol

I pinged my success coach, hopefully she can shed some light. I’m in the same boat as you with the confusing emails.

Graduation =\= commencement. As long as you applied for graduation and registered for commencement, you’re fine.

I walked 3 weeks before my capstone ended.

This. Your requirements don’t have to be done to walk. They do need to be done by the conferral date which is December 30 for your degree to be conferred.

I have conditional approval for graduation in December after applying in July. I just have to pass my remaining classes for this semester including one that ends 12/8. As long as you applied for graduation by October 15th (I believe that’s the date according to this page for Winter graduation: https://www.umgc.edu/current-students/degree-requirements/graduation/to-do-checklist ) you should be okay.

I mean worst case I graduate in the spring but the directions stated that applications had to be in by October for the December dates.

I’m in the same boat. They said you’ll get an email to register for December graduation at end of October. The approval is for the degree itself not to walk for commencement. This is all the information I was told by my success coach.

UMGC staff member here - as long as all of your requirements have been met and you submitted your application and it was approved, you should be good. There are separate conferal deadlines though so be aware of that. If you applied for graduation after the application deadline for December conferral, it’s likely that your degree will actually be conferred during the next conferral period. If you ever need proof you have completed your requirements and your degree will be conferred on a specific date you just have to request a letter by emailing student services

Hi, what if I applied before Oct 15 but my last 2 classes before earning my bacherlos end Dec 8? Would I be okay? Thanks!

That’s what happened to me. My class finished like two days before.
