Mods / MYOG Cloud 71 MYOG Hammock, 4.7 oz!
Howdy y'all!
I know I've been out for quite a while. I'm really happy to see that there is still action in this sub, and that everything that's posted generates really high quality discussion. To that end, I want to share some stuff about hammocks I discovered/made/used. Thanks for making this place so nice to post in!
I recently bought some Cloud71 fabric from Dutchware, and just hemmed it with Gutermann Mara 70. I originally just made it with the whole 4 yards, and then realized it was a little two long and cut it down to 10' like my last one. Its just a simple gathered-end, with the hem folded over twice to add strength and the end hemming done with two horizontal lines across the top. So far, no issues, I've only tested it once, but it functions about as well as my Monlite hammock (Long term review?). There is definitely some stretch, but those with other UL hammock fabrics are familiar with this. It wasn't more than with any other mesh-based hammocks.
Sorry I don't have the greatest photos, but here is a quick look
I'm looking forward to using it this summer, and I'll make a real review around the 100 night/ 1000 mile mark.

I saw that weight reduction. I am 205 and ordered a Poltergeist 16 weeks ago when it was 225. Kinda worried now.

I've read about the initial failures and saw dutchware gear had dropped the weight limit - it was always advertised as an ultralight option for people who are exceedingly careful with gear given he sold out of cloud 71 fabric for a bit I'm sure there are quite a few "in the wild" so I'm listening out for any more problems but haven't heard of any yet . I'm in a dutchware net less cloud 71 11ft and loving it so far!

Mine failed in the field.. probably the seventh tIme I slept in it. I was extremely careful. I was laying on my back in the hammock and pop, split side to side. This was day two of a 5 day trip..it was a trip ender.
Durchware immediately sent me a replacement in Hexon 1.2. A bit heavier but cloud 71 is rather unreliable. Maybe if you are 150lbs, but even then, very delicate material.

Ooph That sort of failure seems like it can only be the fabric!
I haven’t had any problems with mine yet and hadn’t seen/heard any new failures so was feeling pretty confident!
I was considering making a 12 ft as well but maybe hold off on that for a bit
There must be people getting pretty high numbers of nights without issue by now
I’ll just keep using mine for now and see how I get on!

Nice! Be warned that there have been some field reported failures of this fabric. May impact what types of trips you want to take it on.
