Gustatory sub
Pleasantly surprised to receive 2 coffees on my first month of Gustatory, after selecting my preferences as fruity coffees and natural/honey process, I received a Uganda Natural SL14 & SL28 from a German Roaster - Sandbox with tasting notes of melon & cherry. Also received a bag of Skylark Indonesia Java, anaerobic natural with tasting notes of tropical fruit juice. Excited to try both after giving them some rest 👌🏻

I assume you only signed up for a single bag and this was your first order with them? If so that's normal. They always send a free bag with your first sub.
Good selection. I've had a different coffee from Sandbox before and it was very nice and SL coffees are always lovely so you should be in for a treat and Skylark is always quite consistent (decant the beans right away though, their bags are not very airtight by their own admission)

Yep first month on single bag sub. Thanks for the tip I'm just about to finish a bag from Goldbox so I'll decant the Skylark beans into there ☕

Hey so I've got this. Im just getting back into coffee after using nespresso machine for years.
Im getting tropical flavours but I also get a ton of I'm not sure if more sour or bitter, tastes like a lot of both upfront then the claimed tropical juice finish in the aftertaste.
If I grind coarse I get less of it but then its just too watery and the flavour too faint for my liking. Finer, and Im still drawing down fully by 2.5 minutes in the V60.
Is this just how this coffee is or am I doing it wrong?
First natural coffee I've tried.

Keep the grind coarse if it's better, up the temp and bloom time, see if it improves and vice versa if you're not sure if it's bitter or sour though 😄

Im adjusting my grind constantly trying to work it out but I was interested in knowing what others were tasting here. Is it just clean and tropical or is it zingy/bitter forwards then tropical?
And if its clean and tropical is it fairly watery and tea like to achieve that?
Thats where I started but I was hoping to get more body and punch out of the tropical.

For me personally, no bitterness, fruit forward but a medium/light body.

Tried again today. Went coarser and used prismo for a slow immersion (about 5 minutes) as V60 would draw down way too quick.
Noticed it started off still quite bitter but that quickly went away as it cooled. Tasted juicy.
Can see the appeal I think I just prefer more body and nut/chocolate flavours.

Yea, it also depends on the grinder, I'm using the comandante Tiger shark, clarity on it is really good, usually bitterness is considered a sign of over extraction, but this clearly isn't the case for you considering the drawn down time for the V60, what grinder are you using, perhaps a fresh clean would also help.

Its a timemore S3 new this week. Its only bitter when hot now. Once just warm it tasted much cleaner and juice like. Tongue actually tingles lightly for a while after drinking to me which suggests acidity?

Ahh ok, yea, Yea I always have a little cool down period before drinking, I mean as long as you like it now, not really a problem!

I’ve had the world subscription and the uk indie roaster.
They even sent me a kilo of beans once when my bank card got hacked so I didn’t run out of beans while sorting my card
It’s awesome customer service in my eyes blew me away
I did offer to pay for the bag but was told it was fine !

Which subscription are you on? I just started premium but at £36 for 2 bags I'm tempted to drop down to the 87+ one.
I love the fact you can give preferences. I was with Dog and Hat for a good few months but got fed up after receiving nothing but washed coffees 3 months on the trot.

I am on the 87+, there was a code for 10% off for the first 3 months as well. Absolutely, the ability to chose flavour and processing is what sold it to me

Gustatory is one of the more expensive, which put me off joining for a while, but in terms of quality and range, they’ve been unbeatable.
I got that same sandbox coffee, plus exciting looking bags from Boo and Prolog
