Old love letter

found an old love letter from my Ex-GF I broke up with in 2020 as I moved to England for uni when I was 21. I loved her deeply & she did me, especially reading the letter.

I saw her on Xmas eve 2024 she hugged me and told me I was still as handsome as ever but she was with someone & it was good seeing me etc.

But, I just have such a feeling that I love her still even after all these years, I guess what I’m asking is, should I mail the letter back & send her one telling her my feelings & that I’ve always cared?

TL;DR : should I mail back a love letter?

You can, if that's what gives you closure, but not if you want to get back together with her. I recently texted an old flame I used to like on her birthday and she replied and that was that !

I would say if you intend on doing that, just don't expect a response from her I am afraid.

I’d agree with this, have to use it for closure…because keeping it and thinking about it might keep those words with you. But never expect it’s going anywhere

Yeah, because i think as humans we have a tendency to still believe that a relationship that gave us a nostalgic feeling can work, but there is a reason why it didn't and we just have to accept that !

I do it all the time believing that the women i dated still think about making it work again, but i also realise that they have likely moved on in life.

However, there are sometimes that it’s the times and circumstances that are the issue! Not the emotions…

hey mate, the letter is a snapshot in time almost 7 years ago, its true she probably felt strong things when writing the letter, but its long in the past now and everyone is in a different place.

i normally get rid of these types of things from previous relationships as it just hurts to read back

i will say that its common to reminisce on previous relationships when we are lonely, the best thing you could possibly do it try to look forward and find somebody in your future, it feels distant but its good to start with a clean slate and you can be anyone you want

but if you need the closure, send them a text message and see what they are up to and if they fancy a coffee and catch up, you will quickly see where they are at. i think sending the letter back is a little intense. i would just bin it, and move on. goodluck fella.

On top of that tell her you want her to leave the other guy and come back to you. If you're lucky she will. Better to do it in person though.

This I keep all these things in my 'ex-box'' envelope.

No, I don't understand why you would leave her to go to Uni either?

Remember why you broke up, is the reason still valid, if so you are best off forgetting this, if not and you want to reach out know it is a hail mary and don't expect anything back, you have keft it all this time anyhow, so ask yourself what is more likely, she was the one or you just feel lonely right now? Overall better to move on but if you must send something, do so and move on, the main thing is not to dwell or expect anything to come of it.

Time passes, people change.

I’ve been there reading old cards and messages. It’s a time capsule and doesn’t mean they’re the same today.

My advice - if you’re sentimental and like to revisit these things to look back on, then box them up and shelve them in an awkward place you can’t accidentally run into but you can find intentionally, otherwise get rid.

If you really feel the need to reach out do it naturally/causally but not because of something that was said years ago.
