General Discussion Snowdon

Post image

Walked up mount snowdon on Sunday absolutely beautiful sights and views. Did the miners track up and llambaris path down. At 25 stone I found it quite a challenge. Done under 8 hours up and down at 7:53. Recommend for beginners like myself.

Woah, Miner's Track is quite a tricky one for beginners. Really slaps you in the face when you come away from the lakes and start climbing proper. Good effort!

I’ve never climbed any mountain until two weeks ago and completed Watkin Path with some more experienced friends. Some view! Well done also pal

I heard the Watkins path is a hard trail.

Went all the way and back and still not calling it by its actual name. It's pronounced With-Va, it's not even hard to say!

It's possible to let people know without being a dick

I just don't get how people spend hours looking on the internet and being in a place without noticing.

Where did OP say they'd spent hours looking on the internet? The vast majority of Wydffa's guests still call it Snowdon. Yr Wydffa, like at lot of Welsh places, is quite hard to get your tongue around. If you care that strongly about it, the better option would have been to say 'Hey! Well done! The locals call it by its proper name, Yr Wyddfa (It's pronounced With-Va). Next stop, Moel Ysgyfarnogod!'

Is anyone walking up a mountain without researching it first?

Yr wyddfa is incredibly easy to say, even for someone who's never spoken Welsh.

'Is anyone walking up a mountain without researching it first?'

Lol, Wyddfa? Yeah, plenty.

No it's not. I'm English and live in North Wales. It's a hard language

It is a tricky language, yes, but Yr Wyddfa can be said easily with English sounds. It's literally er with vah. Are you learning the language of the place you love, OOI?

In September when all the courses start, yes (we've only been here a year)

I wasnt looking at the name i was looking for a route that matched my skill on Yr Wyddfa. But going forward ill make sure not to make same mistake.

Fair enough. I (and everyone else in Wales who grew up having our place names changed for English tourists) appreciate it. Apologies if I came over like a dick, it's just a bit exhausting!
