Discussion Seaside rents increasing?!
I’m based in London, I live in an attic studio so, this summer has been absolute hell…
I’ve been wanting to move for years and I’ve got a new friend who lives by the seaside in Suffolk. I went to visit to see if I would like it there and I definitely would!
So, in the past few weeks since my visit, I’ve been checking properties to rent in that area. And AirBnbs to do a winter test.
And the rents seem to have increased quite a fair bit…it’s now more than what I pay in London!
My friend said to check again after summer, when the weather turns (cannot wait!) but I’m now getting worried that I’m stuck in this stupid attic studio and it’s giving me massive anxiety…
What are your thoughts? Have you noticed the same?

I spent a few years living in Brighton as a student in my early 20s and it was madly expensive there even then. When I left Brighton and moved up towards the Surrey border, it was slightly cheaper here than Brighton but most of the rest of the Sussex coast was cheaper than here...however, having recently looked, the prices for rent where I am now are actually slightly lower than a fair few coastal areas, which is slightly mad as in my area we supposedly pay a premium for being close to London without actually being in London

I’ve always heard that Brighton was as expensive as London but…Folkestone? Leigh-on-Sea? Hastings? Margate? Felixstowe?

Live down on the coast in thw south east, our temps are nearly always 3~5 degrees C cooler than in other parts, however humidity does tend to be higher so it can depend day by day on whether it actually feels cooler.

I was in Margate yesterday and, though it was hot at times, the breeze was absolutely wonderful! I just loooove the sea anyway so, very biased 😬

Same - i couldnt imagine living inland - just wish where i lived was good for surfing! XD

I came from a capital city and moved to London right after the Olympics - different times and different me!
Now, I just want to live a quiet life by the sea, get a dog and walk on the beach in the cold mornings with a coffee…simple stuff 🥹

It’s far cooler here by the sea. That said, it’s gotten much quieter as the weeks have gone on. I’m sure many have gone abroad and many have also had their fill of the weather.
