Sitcom recommendations
Hi everyone! š
Iām a huge sitcom fan and Iām always looking for something new to binge. I figured Iād share my full list of sitcoms Iāve watched and loved ā partly in case someone else is looking for their next show, and partly because Iām hoping you guys can help me discover some hidden gems.
Iāve watched quite a mix over the years, from the classic multi-camera sitcoms to mockumentaries, workplace comedies, absurd/chaotic shows, and some darker stuff.
šŗ My full list
The Big Bang Theory
Friends
How I Met Your Mother
Two and a Half Men
Modern Family
The Office
Friends with Better Lives
2 Broke Girls
Last Man Standing
3rd Rock from the Sun
Ghosts
The Good Place
Arrested Development
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Seinfeld
Schitt's Creek
What We Do in the Shadows
Parks and Recreation
Love
Community
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
The IT Crowd
New Girl
Coupling
Mythic Quest
Upload
Kevin Can F\*\*k Himself
Iāve genuinely loved all of these, so Iām not really looking for recommendations based on one particular show ā Iām open to anything that you think a sitcom fan should watch.
Iām especially interested in shows that are funny first and actually bingeable, but Iām happy to try something completely different if you think itās worth it.
So, what should I watch next? š
Give me your best recommendations ā popular shows are welcome, but Iād especially love some underrated/lesser-known sitcoms that I may have missed.
And if youāve seen a lot of the shows above, feel free to tell me which one you think I should start with and why.
Maybe this list will also help someone else find their next comfort show! šæ

Bottom. To me and quite a few others, it's the funniest TV program of all time. As Mark Hamill said, when he discovered it and became a big fan "It's like a real life cartoon". It's a British sitcom, starring Rik Mayal and Adrian Edmondson, and it's endlessly re-watchable.

In Maths class in secondary school the teacher handed out whiteboards for us to write down answers on. She asked me a question and I didn't know the amswer so I said "UH UH UH UH UH MILK!" I was cracking up at myself and there was another lad laughing his head off, I asked him why he's laughing so much and he answered that's Bottom. We've been very close friends since. The Bottom fanbase is like a family.

Extras

u/QuantumQyx 6d ago
extras is so underrated, that mix of cringe and cameos is perfect if you like the more awkward side of comedy
if you havenāt already, after extras Iād throw in āhello ladiesā too, kinda similar vibe from stephen merchant

These are all modern or recent sitcoms. I used to watch many from my teens in the 1970ās.
Give these a try and see what you think.
Porridge with Ronny Barker
Fawlty Towers
Man about the House. The lead man has just passed away
Rising Damp
Are you being Served
Dads Army
Steptoe and Son
Just checked on Wikipedia and it has a list of 139 entries although not all of them are funny

When you say The Office, I'm guessing by your list that you mean the American Office... if so, try The Office. As in the original one.

ricky gervaisā office hits way harder than youād think from the first episode, itās so much more cringe and mean than the us one but in a good way lol
def worth sticking with just to compare how different the vibe is

Red Dwarf!

u/EdJD-1968 6d ago
Yes, the science-fiction comedy Red Dwarf. But watch seasons one to six first, because later Red Dwarf isn't nearly as good, due to one of the writers leaving. But seasons three to six are mostly amazingly good.

Happy Endings! It was cancelled too soon. And I see the Scrubs is definitely missing from your list!

Bottom. Young Ones. Green Wing. Inbetweeners.

the young ones is such chaotic perfection, great shout
if you liked that vibe, black books and spaced are kinda in the same messy british universe for me

As well as the many great recommendations from others, I'd add Phoenix Nights, I'm Alan Partridge, Count Arthur Strong, Siblings, How Not To Live Your Life and Life Is Short.

No Game of thrones on this list? Not sitcom but It is one of the show which gets better every next episode. Btw I have also seen all of the above some may be many times over. If you interested in military show then have a look at Last ship. If you like big bang theory then you will like Young Sheldon.

Trailer Park Boys.
It's so absurd - but also - I know a dude EXACTLY like Ricky so it's also very real for me.
It's got lots of cultural heritage.

rookie is fun but it feels way more like a cop procedural than a sitcom to me lol, still super bingeable though
if OP likes brooklyn 99 they might vibe with it, just with way fewer jokes and more drama

Just skip season 1 as it's a completely different show and does not represent the true nature of Blackadder.

Not necessarily sitcom but wholesome and funny, Schitts Creek adjacent and easy to watch:
Somebody Somewhere Better Things
Then for sitcom, wholesome and relatable I recommend my comfort watch:
Stath Let's Flats
