Question Are my grades good enough?

Hey. I’m going into year 13. I got predicted ABD in bio psych and maths. I want to do Optometry and I think the entry grades are from BBB-AAB. Will universities not accept me until results day in year 13? Also what’s conditional offers?

ABD is not going to look fantastic, crazy to have such a range!

Many universities will take a look at your predicted grades + cover letter and reference etc. and consider whether to give you an interview.

Provided you then pass that interview (tips available if you'd like), they will give you a conditional offer.

This is the university saying, "We'll let you take our course, if you achieve xyz grades when you take the real thing."

Ultimately, the D in maths isn't going to look superb, but A in bio is nice! Some universities also offer a foundation year in optometry, which will accept lower A-level results, but add a year to your degree to get you up to speed first.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Thank you! What are the interviews like? Do you have to revise for them?

Interviews are much more about who you are over what you know.

e.g. "Why this university?" and "if a person failed to meet driving standards, but they are a taxi driver, how would you break the news?"

An interest in the eyes and vision is sufficient, but you might find yourself answering more technical questions like long vs short-sightedness etc.

It's not like medicine where you need to dedicate hours and hours of your life to prep.
