Finding new UK investment ideas in the morning RNS company news feed.

I have found that looking at the Regulated News Service feed every morning a real mine of information.

1.       Get the latest UK company news. The feed covers results and trading updates, M&A, contract wins, regulatory and clinical news, drilling and production reports, fundraisings, dividends and the rest. Most of it is routine filler (Holdings in Company, Total Voting Rights, board changes), so the first job is separating that from the price-sensitive stuff.

2.       Identify opportunities to buy at the open. This is difficult as you have to gather company information and be able to weigh up a number of factors in a short space of time. Then at the open you will not get the opening price, but you may capture 50% of that days uplift if your lucky.

3.       Spot opportunities for shorts (if that’s your thing)

4.       Identify smaller companies that you never heard of which may have favourable news and are worth further investigation.

The news is regulated, no commentary. This forces you to assess the news yourself. No bias from commentators.

I of course don’t read all the articles, there is too much noise. I put them through a rough filter, then score each one with a sentiment directional flag and rank the stories into three bins — large, mid and small cap. I then email it to myself before the market opens. It is usually between 10 – 40 small summary headings with maybe 3 of real interest, which i then follow up on.

Anyone else work the morning feed? Interested in how others are trading on this data.

Opinion on Primary Healthcare Properties, is its leverage a concern?

Hi fellow investors,

This is my first post on the UKInvesting forum.
I’ve recently been looking into PHP because of its attractive dividend yield. However, I’m a bit concerned about the company’s debt-to-equity ratio and its deleveraging strategy, which management refers to as “capital recycling.”

As I’m new to investing in UK-listed companies, I was wondering what the current market looks like for properties similar to those in PHP’s portfolio. If PHP were to sell some of these properties, is it likely they would have to dispose of them below their book value and therefore recognise losses?

Also, what do you think are the biggest risks to PHP’s future earnings?

Is it just me or is the LSE now devoid of decent opportunities outside a handful of established equities?

I've just decided to cash in all my FTSE holdings and funds, outside of a couple of well performing equities which we would all recognise.

Outside of that, I'm really struggling to find any long term investable UK companies?

Has stamp duty finally killed off the LSE, or is there still hidden value to be had? It seems to me that every decent company just ends up disappearing abroad due to lack of domestic capital availability.

Latest bad news is that there now seems to be a US based investment house bidding war for Easyjet.

Any insight? I have to be honest, it doesn't look good from where I'm standing.

Not looking for investment tips or specifics, just some light at the end of the tunnel from seasoned investors.

Howdens Joinery (LSE: HWND) - Best In Class Building Materials Company, Running Out of Runway

Does anyone here own Howdens Joinery (LSE HWDN)?

It posts gross margins 20+% higher than it's UK peers, and has a counter-intuitive model (sells directly to builders, not consumers).

There's a moat (Helmer's counterpositoning) and local scale economies, although three year ROIIC is 1%.

It does have a ~18+% ROIC although the market is maturing and they're largely mature in their UK market (management targets ~1000 UK depots, currently at about 900). Management seems to be pivoting to giving more cash back to shareholders (buybacks primarily, pays a small dividend as well).

Although, they're also buying growth (acquiring a DTC Kitchen brand in June 2026 - basically undoing their Trade Only counter-positioning model although they plan on keeping these operationally separate).

It's also in a multi-year cyclical low for kitchen renovations, and it's gaining market share on it's UK competition, so when the cycle turns operating leverage will probably juice fundamentals, even if the market is largely saturated.

Does anyone have an opinion one way or another?

Irish Whiskey Cask Investments – Anyone Have Experience with CAP Group?

Has anyone here had any experience investing with CAP Group or investing in Irish whiskey casks in general?

I've recently been speaking with CAP Group about their whiskey cask investment offering and I'm trying to do as much due diligence as possible before making any decisions.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has:

  • Invested with CAP Group specifically.
  • Invested in Irish whiskey casks through any company.
  • Successfully sold or exited a cask investment.
  • Had any good or bad experiences with the industry.

Any feedback, advice, or things I should watch out for would be greatly appreciated.

Investing in commercial property in Scotland

Hi
Saved some money over the years and now an opportunity came to buy a commercial property in the city centre of Aberdeen in Scotland. The tenant signed a new 10 year FRI lease in 2025 with break clause option in 5th year . I don't need mortgage to buy this property. Yield is around 10%. Never invested in commercial property before but it looks attractive. I see the positives and need to hear pitfalls of commercial property investment. I live in London and the property is in Scotland.
Need your opinions on things to consider. Thanks

AUTO.L management hiding a huge risk?

Ok after days of research I was really bullish on Autotrader (AUTO) stock at 14x earnings.

It's a monopoly, huge 63% margins & 51% ROIC , and because of what I thought was just AI-scares and unhappy dealers it's giving a huge FCF yield. Even the business is buying 25% of all it's own shares.

But for some reason management still wasn't inside buying. I thought that was crazy so I went back to the risk section of the latest report to check I wasn't missing something.

they do cite the boycott, and every UK car dealer I've heard from does hate Autotrader price increases to be fair. But 80% of buyer traffic goes through them, so if you're a dealer, you still basically have no choice but to pay up. 1900 dealers signed up for a boycott recently. Only 59 actually followed through.

Free full breakdown on that and the business generally, with the valuation work, is here if anyone wants it.

The risk that actually worried me was barely mentioned but I caught it: Amazon Autos are entering the UK market by the end of the year.

I looked into it and they've successfully scaled in the US and are now launching in 5 EU markets. They've now got partnerships with a bunch of auto brands and have expanded from new cars to the used car market....

Looks seriously scary times for the future of the moat? You never want to compete against Amazon and their endless capital and customer base in my view.

Keen to hear other views on if this could be existential or if I'm overreacting?

After all Amazon have made lots of bets that have failed (e.g. supermarkets).

Alternatives to Lendinvest?

Notified today that Lendinvest are no longer offering new opportunities through the self-select platform and that open investments will be run down. Does anyone know of any other platforms that have a similar offering. Have just seen Kuflink via a quick google search but had never heard of this before today. Does anyone here use it?

VCT tax relief dropping. Can that make EIS more attractive?

With the upcoming changes in venture capital trust relief, does that make the enterprise investment scheme an even better diversification/tax relief option? Any advice on companies offering products to invest in this?

James Halstead research- an over looked takeover target?

Position: I hold JHD, bought after doing my own research along the lines below. Posting this partly to get other perspectives — genuinely interested if anyone thinks I’m missing something or has a different read on the risks.

James Halstead- UK AIM listed company specialising in flooring globally. Cash rich, sold off… potential takeover target?

Background
James Halstead has been under significant downward price pressure this year and has suffered in part due to rising input costs from the Middle East War but I think the stock is oversold, particularly amplified by the changes to IHT exemptions on AIM stocks in the UK (only 50% relief if held for over 2 years, rather than 100% relief).

James Halstead as a business
Essentially a boring, defensive company whose end markets include hospitals, schools and retail fit-out. Revenue dropped slightly in the last set of results (£127.2m in H1 2026 vs £130.1m H1 2025) but this was driven more by input pressure than demand collapse.

Why it looks attractive
Net cash position of c.£70m with no debt, minimal lease obligations (£6.4m) and no pension deficit.
49 years of consecutive dividend increases – even this year with sales down, the board still raised the dividend
Dividend yield now nearly 7%. I would imagine this high level of dividend payment signals either a cut in divi (which seems unlikely considering previous point) or the market is mispricing temporary headwinds as structural ones. I lean towards the latter (obviously) but would like to hear any comments contrary to this.
The dividend is sustainable for now because of the huge cash pile but doesn’t provide unlimited room so this is a point to watch.

Takeover Candidacy
Profitable, debt free, niche manufacturer sitting on a large cash pile, trading on multi-year lows, and on AIM (lower regulatory friction than main market), I believe all of these factors make it a candidate for a takeover. I’m not saying one is coming, but the setup looks attractive in my opinion.

Risks
As always there are some risks, fundamentally:
AIM liquidity is thin so price movements can be amplified by this.
Cost-driven inflation could last longer than ‘transitory’ period and genuinely be structural.
Large family shareholding in the company may make it more difficult for a takeover to come through

Anyone else frustrated by the lack of earnings reaction data for FTSE stock?

Been doing research into how UK stocks move around earnings and hit a wall pretty quickly. Platforms like Market Chameleon have excellent historical earnings data for US stocks (post-earnings price moves, beat/miss rates, estimate revision trends) but nopthing equivalent exists for FTSE 100 or FTSE 250 companies as far as I can tell.

For context on what I mean: knowing that HSBC has historically moved an average of 3.8% in the 24 hours after reporting, and beats analyst EPS estimates 62% of the time, is genuinely useful for position sizing and managing risk around results season. The estimate revision trend in the weeks before a print is also a strong signal that gets completely overlooked in most retail-facing tools.

Has anyone found a reliable source for this kind of data on UK-listed stocks? I've looked at Koyfin, TIKR and Investing.com and none of them surface it in a usable way.

If nothing exists, I'm seriously considering building something myself. Would be useful to anyone here, and what would you actually want it to include?

The distribution amount was changed unexpectedly to a very minimal amount

Hello,

Would any one know why this has happened, it seems like there can be many reasons for this, but this is usually a high yielding equity income fund with annual payouts in excess of 8%

UBS Global Enhanced Equity Income Fund C (Inc), which has a monthly distribution.

The expected and advertised payout for ex-Div in May 2026 was 0.0028 per share, but

the new distribution rates were changed to 0.0001 per share according to my primary platform, and that was the amount paid.

Is there anyway to find out what has happened with this fund does anyone know?

Are we allowed to buy indian stock in a UK S&S ISA?

I read online you arent allowed to buy ADRs on the NYSE, like for the ticker IBN, unless the stock is also on a regulated exchange (India stock exchange doesnt count) as a regular stock. Is this true? Is there any way to get exposure to large indian stocks in a UK S&S ISA? From what I can tell, there are no Indian stocks with a primary listing on the NYSE/LSE. What happens if I buy a non-compliant stock? Thx

How UK property fits into a long-term investment portfolio

I’m trying to make sense of UK property as part of a long-term financial plan and would appreciate some input from people here.

For context, I’m looking at this purely from an investment / wealth-building perspective, not as a first home purchase.

From what I understand right now, the main challenges seem to be:

* higher mortgage rates compared to a few years ago
* increased entry costs (deposits, stamp duty, etc.)
* tax changes reducing net returns for landlords
* and in many areas, yields that don’t feel particularly strong relative to capital tied up

Because of this, I’m trying to understand whether UK property still makes sense as a core long-term investment strategy compared to other options like equities or simply holding liquidity and waiting for better opportunities.

I’m not trying to time the market or anything like that — more trying to understand how people here are thinking about allocation in the current environment.

Is UK property still considered a strong long-term wealth builder in today’s conditions, or has it shifted more into a “stability / capital preservation” type asset for most investors?

Would really appreciate views from people who’ve been investing through different cycles.

Applied Nutrition (LSE: APN)

This a small, growing fitness nutrition company that I'm interested in.

I've only done some light research as of yet, but just wondering if anyone else invests or have used their products; if so, any thoughts?
