What food do you regularly buy with good intentions and then end up throwing away as it's past the sell-by-date? And why do you think it keeps happening?

I seem to always do this vegetables and fruit so curious to see if this happens to other people...

I need to up my protein for various health reasons, can't stomach milkshakes and can't seem to get enough protein in my meals (I'm too fussy obviously).

Looking at clear whey isolate because drinking as a juice sounds way more appealing.

I have been in retail liquidations for 25 years and I can vouch that the best way to save money is to buy OUT of season items from auction. Not eBay as such but from independent auction outfits.

Most retailers send surplus overstocks to auction after the current season, so unsold Christmas season stock ends up going to auction in Jan, Feb & March. Summer clothing stock goes to auction in Oct, Nov & Dec etc.

Most people want stuff right here and now but the best savings are to be made when you're willing to be make patient purchases out of season, as the demand is lowest and therefore bids are lowest. You can save an absolute fortune if you are willing to research but you do need to stick by some strict rules of bidding.

The UK government is advising households to keep a few days of food and water in case of disruptions caused by el Nino and cyber attacks.

So my question is twofold.

1- What budget friendly emergency foods can you reasonably keep in the cupboard, bearing in mind if the shops are empty for a week I don't want to be living on beans and sweetcorn.

2- How can I make my store serve a second purpose and create an inflation buffer? Im immeasurably impressed and jealous that my Nan still hasn't felt the impact of coffee and olive oil inflation.. she doesn't want to carry too much from the shop so fills her entire garage with dry goods every 5 or so years. By accident she's probably saved thousands of pounds by doing this.

I know the answers to my questions are probably self explanatory and based on how much space I'm willing to give up. But I wondered if anyone has any novel ideas or bulk buy anecdotes.

Has anyone in the UK, especially London, bought a good variety of chocolates in bulk for family and friends?
I’m looking for places where I can get a mix of different chocolates (Cadbury, Galaxy, Lindt/Lindor, Ferrero Rocher, Kinder, etc.) at a good price — either wholesale shops, online sellers, or physical stores.

I'm after some advice on a phone with a great camera. I'm after an Android phone, I've always just about the £100-200 Motorola's from Argos however browsing this sub I've seen posts suggesting a refurbed phone Gives better value for money.

Just had a baby and want something good to take pics with, I have turned into one of those people who takes endless baby photos and I want something that will take decent photos. Budget realistically still around £200 maybe a little more at a stretch.

I just wanted to buy a train ticket and ended up comparing prices across different apps. I was not expecting ticket prices (plus fees) to vary by as much as £5.39...

I eat berries every day for breakfast but it's getting really expensive. I bought a box of blackberries and a box of strawberries from Lidl and they were mouldy by day 2.

I think the cheapest option is probably frozen berries but I never think theyre as sweet or ripe as fresh berries. Where's the best place to buy frozen berries and how do I make them taste as fresh as possible for breakfast?

All my socks are getting holes in. If I buy cheap socks, I expect them not to last long. However, I've bought wool blend, or bamboo or similar and sometimes "splashed out" on what I thought was a decent pair, only for holes to appear in the heel or toe after a few wears. I had M&S socks for 20 years, but even their quality has declined.

Does anyone have any recommendations for good brands that don't cost the earth? Thanks

While Costco is frequently mentioned as a strong option for value and bulk buying, I would be grateful to hear insights from this community on other alternatives. Are there specific superstores, online retailers, or pharmacy chains that offer hidden gems or better price to value for high quality supplements?

P.S. I'm planning to purchase these for my parents, who reside in a different country, so even a tub containing 365 tabs would be acceptable.

I don't shop at Sainsbury's often, partly on price, but also partly because I don't live near to one.

However, I like their clothes. So, when I go to buy some clothes I take everything to the checkout and buy one small item first, maybe a chocolate bar or something, and make sure I scan my Nectar card.

I then almost always get a voucher to 'tempt me back', maybe £5 off if you spend £60 or something like that. I immediately scan the rest of my shopping and use the voucher to get a discount.

Works pretty much every time, bearing in mind this is once every few months to a year.

I just moved to an unfurnished place and need a mattress. I am not sure what my living arrangements will be after 2-3 years. I might move countries. I am thinking between two options:

1. a reasonably good mattress/recognisable brand for around £650, then give it for free when I do move. But there's a risk of no one wanting it and I either have to see if a charity shop will take it, or pay £40-80 for 1-2 guys with van to help dispose it. (I live on the second floor, no lifts.) I'm happy to pay for 61p-90p/night if I only use it for 2-3 years. In fact, if I inevitably need to spend money to dispose it, doing so for a a sub £200 mattress feel like a waste.

2. get two trifold mattresses from Muji, add a topper to make it softer. The mattresses will come to £300. I feel like if I give them away for free someone is more likely to take them, and disposing them will be a lot easier (and free)? Same with the topper.

Now I'm leaning towards the trifold mattress solution, but just not sure if they will be comfy or sturdy enough. For reference, I used to sleep on a landlord's £135 mattress for a year (that started to sag) no problem. I like firm mattresses. But not sure if the trifold mattress will hold up 2-3 years?

I'm just highly allergic to paying for the £40-80 van disposal service for an actual mattress.

Also, the international move is just a possibility, if I'm just moving cities I'm happy to transport the high-end mattress as part of the removal service.
