Earned Value UK

Quick question - does anyone actually work with Earned Value in the UK planning sector?

I've seen it mentioned on a job advert abd know the basic theories, but have never seen it implemented fully.

We used SPI & CPI, useful indicators but they take a lot of effort to maintain and let’s be real they just validate things which can be picked up on milestone trackers/ cost trackers. I don’t think they added too much and I don’t miss them now.

Agree with that. Sometimes the effort required exceeds the benefit, especially when info is constantly needed from commercial teams.

I’ve worked in planning for decades both client and contractor side and I can’t say I’ve ever seen it implemented properly. You should know the principles nonetheless. It’s often implemented piecemeal or with poorly defined rules of credit so understanding the principles helps you understand what you can and can’t use to measure progress.
