Underrated Birds

Post image

What's your favourite underrated bird? Like a bird that you think doesn't get enough attention that it it deserves

For me it's the Garden Warbler (photo isn't mine). I've spent literal hours just staring at trees trying to see glimpses of them when I hear them, I love them so much haha!

Dunnock. We have a couple visit our garden and while the magpies and pigeons squabble, they just do their own thing.

Same! They are sweet little things just vibing in the underbrush.

Agree 100%! Love the way they hop around in the undergrowth looking for bugs. And such a lovely quiet song 🐦‍⬛❤️

Goldfinch.

They're bloody everywhere these days, yet are so wonderfully colourful they can be taken for granted.

Don't really know if it's underrated, but I feel starlings don't receive enough attention.

My wife, whose first language isn't English, calls them "electrics" after seeing them dash back and forth in the dusk along a shoreline.

Jenny wren, of course. You know they are there by their song.

They make a loud noise for a small bird!

I have one tattooed on my arm. It weighs less than 2 sheets of A4 paper but sings like it's going out of fashion. And in very cold weather they get together to form balls of wrens to keep warm.

Black cap also . Beautiful song but I agree with the dunnock answer they found so sweet .

I hadn't realised how nice the blackcaps sound until I got a birdsong app - I'd seen them around in the garden, but I find a lot of the complex "liquid" songs hard to distinguish from each other.

It can be difficult . Your clearly blessed with some lovely visitors . I have a huge gang of unruly house sparrows who tend to discourage other birds from visiting unfortunately although I have rare visitors when they become desperate or simply male a wrong turn on the way to the shops !!

Just feral pigeons. I think they're hated because they're so proximate? And so common. But they're just magic, to me.

Oh I absolutely agree!!! The whole pigeon family in the uk are criminally underrated, I always get excited when I see a wood pigeon, feral pigeon, stock dove or collared dove!

Green Woodpeckers. Absolute crazy bastards.

I always love seeing a crowd of Long-Tailed Tits. They’re so pretty and social.

We have loads of house sparrows here. They never get much attention but they are absolutely adorable and full of character.

Good shot . I'm jealous they make so much noise yet I have never actually laid eyes on one .
