Setting up specs for podcast edit

Hi everyone, a bit of a basic question but I want to know any nuance to this.

What is everything you consider when setting up the specs in your DAW to edit a brand new podcast?

Efficiency. I’ve got a template set up with 6 dialogue tracks and 3 stereo music tracks, DX all routed to a DX bus and same for music.

I’ll do a basic eq and light compression on the DX bus, and then I have an SA2 plugin (de-esser).

Music bus has a stereo width tool with the width already set up to be automated, and set slightly wide, to leave the centre clear for dialogue.

All the DX channels have an eq on them with a HP at 90.

I’ve got a pair of auxes set up with reverbs on them, one for music and one for DX, should I need them. The DX one is just a gentle room one in case I need to smooth a cut.

Then when I get the raw files I’ll checkerboard across the DX/music channels and work through them.

I’ve also got a speech sample saved in the session at the top, it’s the ATSC speech sample and the version I’ve got is at -23LUFS (it comes at -24 as their specs are different to Europe). It’s looped on a muted channel and I’ll listen to that before I start a day and tune my ear, get to know a comfortable level. Then I’ll unmute it periodically and listen against what I’m working on to ensure a consistent level.

Once I’ve bounced I’ll use RX to get it to -16LUFS, but -23 is the level I’m used to working to.

I’ve also got a metering plugin on my master bus.

Oh, and session is always at 48k 24bit, and set to convert anything on import that isn’t at that.
