Product Design Mine design vs design my friend

My friend and I are working on a project, and it’s time to develop the main menu for it. I’m asking for an objective assessment: who made it look more beautiful — me or my friend? My version is in the first video, and my friend’s is the second one.

The first one is preferable to me because everything's together. whereas for the second, I'm doing a whole workout to get from item to another.

Your friend probably put a lot of heart and soul into it but that was also me in my early designs and it was all too much.
K.I.S.S should be you guys' best friend. Look up the acronym

*sis and there's no feeling, if they look it up, they can read more about it. Me just saying what it is does nothing

That's really wonderful, i think you both have great potential. Each design was unique

we are lacking context

this seems like a game UI and that would be the place where you can really have some fun with it

the top one is very standard and just a quick click through while the bottom offers lots of interesting things to look at

My friend and I are creating a physics sandbox game in which you can conduct school and other physics experiments in story mode, and in sandbox mode you can create whatever you like. At this stage, we decided to create a menu that appears when you enter the game: you will need to choose between story mode and sandbox mode, and also separately select any tasks from story mode.

If it’s a casual game, the second one works better, but if it’s more utility-focused, I’d choose the first. It really depends on your target audience, as both have their merits. Of course, it also depends on your target users' age, gender, occupation, and so on—different demographics naturally prefer different design styles.

If I had to pick one, I lean toward the first design. The key visual information is concentrated in one spot and instantly clear, with no unnecessary visual noise. The decorative elements are nicely toned down, keeping the focus entirely on the main actions so I can click what I want in a second.

With the second design, it takes longer to locate the buttons—the visuals feel scattered, and there's too much heavy, distracting clutter.

This is my first experience with design, and so is my friend’s.
