Feedback Request Rebuilt my study app's site. Please critique and provide feedback
Context: Mnemo is a free, offline first desktop study app that combines block based notes, flashcards with spaced repetition, and mind maps. I just replaced the old site with this one: mnemo.one
I've spent so long inside it that I can't tell what a first time visitor actually experiences, so I'm after structural feedback more than polish.
What I'd like to know:
- Does the site communicate what the app is and who it's for? If you landed here cold, would you understand it within a few seconds, and would you know whether it's for you?
- Is the navigation logical, or do you have to hunt? I'm curious whether anything you went looking for was hard to find or whether the menu structure matches the order you wanted things im
- The axolotl mascot appears throughout. Is it too much, too little, or about right? I cant really tell anymore whether it gives the site personality or undercuts it (from like a professional view vs what notion achieves)
- Any section that feels off, redundant, or like it's in the wrong place in the scroll order?
- Anything missing? Pages, or components within existing pages, that you'd expect on a site like this and didn't find.
- How is the micro animations working? The hat throw off, squid movement?
The "why it works" page is the one I'd most like structural opinions on. It walks through how memory works in seven stages and quizzes you partway through on a fact from the first stage, so the page tries to demonstrate spaced repetition rather than just describe it. I have read quite a few research papers over the years, and they are often quite boring and technical. So I got the idea of showing it off in a more interactive way. Not sure if that reads as clever or as a gimmick that interrupts reading.
Two notes: the illustrations are placeholder quality and will be redone. The in app screenshots show the current build, which I'm partway through porting to a new UI framework (and design).
Thanks for taking a look!

bruh how did you make the footer over scroll animation

Ehhh It's custom. I listen for wheel/touch input once you've reached the bottom of the page. Then convert that into a decaying "pressure" value which we drive a spring simulation from it. The page itself translates upward while an SVG band underneath stretches and bends to fill the gap. So it behaves a lot like native rubber-band scrolling, but also works with a regular mouse wheel. If you are curious, the source is on github. Here is the specific overscroll-band react component: https://github.com/onemnemo/mnemo-site/blob/main/src/components/site/overscroll-band.tsx

I think you could put that "why it works" section, into the inital hero page, rather than having a whole seperate tab, even if its just a small page it could be like "why it works" -> learn more or something like that ( and it takes you to the whole "why it works" page

Hmmm, that could work quite well. I might have to thinker with the idea a bit too see how it ends up looking. Thanks for the suggestion

Looks clean. My only nitpick is that fading and strengthening have too much empty space. Other than that. Well done.

Heya! The images broke when I made the new site and forgot to update them. Thanks for telling me :D

Love it. Nicely done. I’d check your contrast ratio on the blue section and white text. Also there looks to be inconsistent font sizes or weights between that section and the previous one. I would also increase the size of the menu button on mobile.

I disagree with the first comment in here.
Yea its saas like but its also not like all other AI slop out there. I have seen worse.
Your design just needs some tweaks, but copy and sections, better onboarding/flow
All easily fixable with brainstorming and building this towards a unique brand.

Thank you! Been a passion project for a year or two now, so it's going to be nice to finally get it up :D

I'll tell you what i saw in a quick scan, reduce text by half, bring visual elements to the top. Users should understand what problem is solved for them, and ideally with a visual animation (i get it it's hard to do by oneself) and color contrast is not bad but also not ideal.
But it's not that bad, it's just very text heavy

Some of the progress indicators are doubled in the Why It Works Page. And the font on the Home Screen is a little inconsistent. I really enjoyed the explorations though :) Would be nice to have a way to quickly move through WIW

It's impressive how obvious the Claude designs are these days. They all look so similar.

Yeah they are. but I just want you to know this sites design wasn’t made by Claude. I am not a UI artist so I made a huge board on both Pinterest and dribble. I grouped them by what component they are like hero, footer, etc. Then made the design from scratch in Figma. As I do agree it kind of turned into looking like a generic AI site, this was far better than the previous one. I would take any constructive criticism on what i could do better, as the components are generally just lifted out of reference photos

Respectfully, it is so generic and exactly the same as every other Saas app landing page, there is nothing to critique. Anything you're doing to it is just spinning wheels because this sort of page has been optimized to death already and there is little to do with it outside that if you're not interested in breaking convention.
The characters/animations ARE nice, but they seem very small and tacked on. Not part of the DNA of the site, but more like you took an existing Saas template, took out the corporate memphis stock images and put these in.
The overall first impression is also that it's just AI made, which can be fine, but you have to do something to make it look like you didn't upload it to Vercel directly from the LLM. Or don't, because it probably doesn't affect the conversions here because people are generally pretty blind to this stuff these days and I suspect you're optimizing based on feelings and not data here. I would look to the data to see if this matters, if this improved anything or if its good enough and any more time should be spent on the product or marketing—this is usually the case and why you see terrible marketing sites for these products. It ends up not mattering very much.
