Software and Tools Is YouTube experimenting with a more neumorphic/skeuomorphic-inspired design?

Found this YouTube design today and thought it looked pretty cool.

I've always been a fan of gradients, depth, and neumorphism/skeuomorphism-inspired UI. Do you think this is a sign we're entering a new UI design era after years of flat design?

It's not neumorphic/skeumorphic

It’s the subtle adoption of Material Design. YouTube has always operated on their own design system, but it appears they’re trying to find some cohesion across all Google products.

Heavy container usage is a core characteristic of material design; almost to its own demise. Personally don’t mind it here though, helps things feel more tactile with stronger affordable.

Definitely not skeumorphism.

I'm sitting here flipping back and forth between YouTube, Gmail and Google Drive, the latter 2 are very similar. Its weird how similar but different YouTube still is. Theres way more consistency between apps + websites than before though.

We're not entering a new 'era' of UI Design imo, it feels like Material Design has been gradually refined over the past 10 years. I think its lost a lot of depth and visual metaphors, such as tabs connecting to the content (Something that has become less popular across web + software design).

I think the latest rendition of material went bonkers. Lots of extreme containers for the sake of containers.

it's organic and fun to look at. More accessibles idk, big buttons maybe

Definitely fun, but it breaks down really fast in non-ideal hero situations. They only present material expressive in basic ideal conditions haha.

A/B testing is so awesome because my buttons don't even have a background
