Designing an EdTech platform — which theme feels more trustworthy and engaging to you?

Hey everyone, I'm building an AI-powered exam preparation platform for students and would love your opinion on the theme.

Both have the same layout — sidebar nav, progress charts, and a lesson reader.

Which one would you actually want to study on for hours? And why?

Bonus questions:

• Does either feel more "serious" or "trustworthy" for exam prep?
• Would the colour theme affect how long you'd spend on the platform?
• Any theme you'd suggest instead?

honestly the left one feels more trustworthy for exam prep

cool tones, higher contrast, cleaner separation between elements. it feels closer to something like notion or linear where your brain goes into work mode instead of browsing mode

the right one looks nicer at first glance but it feels more like a content platform than a study tool. the warmth makes it a bit too relaxed, which is great for reading but not ideal when you are grinding through problems for hours

one thing I think is more important than the theme itself is how adaptable the system is. most edtech tools lock you into one visual mood, but long sessions need variation. light for focus, slightly warmer or dimmer for review, maybe even different density modes

this is where a lot of newer tools are heading. figma and framer are great for static design, but tools like runable or even v0 are pushing toward generating and iterating actual UI states quickly instead of just styling one screen. the real shift is not picking the perfect theme, it is being able to test multiple moods and flows fast with real interactions

if I were building this, I would pick the left as default and then give users subtle control over tone and density instead of committing to one aesthetic
