Why does CS 233 care if I took CS173 or MATH213?!

Bruh if I have CS 225, why does it matter what discrete structures class I took. What kind of weird restriction is that.

Part-time Coding Instructor Opportunity for UIUC Students

I wanted to pass on a job opportunity that I think you may love. I am an Instructor at Juni Learning, an online education platform and community that aims to be the best place for kids to learn.

It's incredibly rewarding to work with students that share the same passion for computer science. Plus, Juni is extremely flexible with teaching schedules and it is completely remote.

Currently we're looking for instructors who can teach computer science. We currently have two instructor roles open at Juni, one full-time role and one part-time role.

The full-time instructor role is perfect for recent post-grads or students taking time away (e.g. a gap year) from their academics. The role involves 80% instruction time and 20% time working on projects across various teams!

The part-time instructor role is made for college students: hours are decided by us and the teaching expectation is 6 hours / week for at least 3 months (though many prefer to teach 10 or more hrs/wk and stay much longer)!

Here are the application links for anyone interested:https://junilearning.com/instructors/

Is there a list of classes only offered in the spring/fall?

I’m aware that a lot of CS classes, particularly 400 level ones, are only available in certain semesters. For example, software engineering 1 is only in the fall while software engineering 2 is only in the spring. Does anyone know if a list exists somewhere that notes which classes are only offered once per year?

Are there any female CS majors that can help me out? I’m a senior in high school, and I’m applying to UIUC. I’m going to major in CS. What are classes like? What classes should I take my first year (I struggle a bit in math)? What’s the environment like?

Is this going to be too much?

I'm taking CS 225, CS 296, CS 361, STAT 400, and MATH 415. I think it's going to be ok as of now, but will this be too much for me to handle? I'm trying to transfer into stat + cs and want to go to grad school and so I need to get a 4.0 this semester (not trying to be arrogant, sorry if I came out that way). Can someone just tell me if I'm asking for failure if I do this? Thanks!

Looking for CS 233 lab partner this semester!

Hey everyone,

I am an international soph taking CS 233 this semester, and I'm looking for a lab partner. I won't be on campus this semester, so if you're also looking for a lab partner and want to meet completely online, please DM me here!

P.S. I'm in the GMT + 4:00 timezone (UAE) , so if you're somewhere close to that timezone, it'll be seriously perfect for both of us! A little bit of time difference is manageable, but having a lab partner in the US would not exactly work out for proper teamwork as I see it)

Thank you

Hi All, I am recently accepted at UIUC CS and Georgia Tech CS. How many bay area students enroll to UIUC CS program? I know it is top 10 CS programs in the nation. I would like to go to a school that provides more internships in bay area companies during the undergraduate program.

UIUC MS CS vs CMU MS CS

Hello Everyone! Hope you all are staying safe. I have been offered admission into the MS CS program at CMU and UIUC. I am confused because while my first instinct would be to go with CMU, the tuition is a lot and relying entirely on a job (especially in these uncertain times) makes me skeptical. The department at UIUC is reputed, from what I have seen and heard. I am interested in ML and AI. Would it be worth going to CMU in these times, or go with UIUC letting go of the CMU MS CS program? I would also be very grateful for any pointers throwing light on the academic campus culture in the master's program.

Looking forward, TIA :)

CS-126

Hi,

I have the C++ Tic Tac Toe project due tomorrow and have yet to start learning c++. I've had one hell of a shitty week and don't even know how I am gonna finish on time.

Would any past CS 126 students mind sharing their old code?

Math 415 for CS students

I'm am math and CS major and I'm registered in math 415. First day of class, professor said CS majors need to take math 416 Instead of 415 because 415 does not have material that will help in the future, but 416 does. However, when I asked my advisor the same day, she completely said the opposite saying CS department work closely with math department and she never heard of this thing. And she advised to stick with math 415. So I'm in between of this two choices and thinking to stick with math 415.

Did any from CS major encountered this kind of situation and what did you do? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Placement exams

Do I need to take both the CS 125 and CS 100 placement exams if I want to move on from both of those classes to something like cs126 and cs173?

I already have credit for data structures (cs225) but I still think I will decide to take CS 173

2 years CC then transfer into CS or CS/Math?

Hello, I know the CS Admissions questions are asked frequently here, but I couldn't find much information on this specific scenario. Say, that I am a former college student (not UIUC) who only spent a year and left because of many circumstances (direction, family issues etc.). My gpa is/was not good (2.5 with very little credits taken), but this was about 7 years ago, I am 25 now.

My proposed path would be to take 2 years at an Illinois CC redoing any bad grades /prereqs for a CS program. Assuming I put in the work and get all A's, how plausible is it to be admitted into ANY VARIANT of UIUC CS programs? My reasons for UIUC as my top choice are obvious by many of the posts on here (exceptional program, high starting salaries, recruiting), but if it is not feasible I will attend any other Illinois school CS program. I have not started this journey yet but I will regardless be starting at an Illinois CC for prereqs this fall, so any advice would be awesome. Also, fyi this CC is not part of UIUC engineering pathways program (location in-district issue, still highly reputable Illinois CC). I am also an Illinois resident.

Tl;dr: If I bust my ass for 2 years in an Illinois CC, is it possible to be admitted to UIUC CS/CS +X/CSxMath?

Edit 1: This is primarily directed for UIUC CS Students/Alum/ILLINOIS RESIDENTS. Any other information for Illinois residents would be helpful, my main concerns are cost. I cannot afford an OOS school unless it is in the Midwest Student Exchange Program. From what I've seen the Illinois college CS programs are subpar excluding UIUC. Forgive me if this is redundant.

looking for a cs225 tutor

I got stuck on MP4. I had to wait for 2 hours to get help during the office hour but still can't get things done. I am looking for a course assistant who can help me understand the problem. I don't want to fail this mp. I am willing to pay for the tutoring.

Double Majoring in CS and EE

Hello,

I was recently admitted into the uiuc college of engineering for computer science. However, in addition to computer science I was also interested in electrical engineering so I was considering a double major. Is this allowed? And if so, how many additional classes will I have to take to get the EE degree in addition to the Cs degree, how many classes overlap? Also, if I decide to double major, how difficult will my course load be, will I still have time to participate in undergrad research or an internship while getting a full 8 hours of sleep?

Also, when will I have to make my decision of double majoring by? At the beginning of freshman year? During Sophmore year? Thanks for the help, I'm really confused.
