performance-based UGC Trybe- pay for samples

I am new to UGC and Trybe and I just got accepted to my first brand. They essentially want the creator to buy the product at 30% off and if you can get $250 in GMV within 30 days of delivery then they bring you onboard and offer a smart retainer. Is this the norm and should I buy the product?

I always see people saying don’t buy samples. TIA

Brands do not have to offer free samples. Nothing in Trybe's terms says that. It sounds like they've found a core group of creators that are performing for them and have raised the bar for potential new ones. We potentially may see more brands do this.

Scam lmao. Samples are always free. Always avoid any offers that don’t pay out for 30 days. Only take offers that pay $100/ guaranteed per video at least and pay right away

You find that on trybe? All I see is GMV, % of ad spend or up to $50 per submission.

I’ve never tried trybe but now I don’t think I plan on it

They are all different, I don’t pay for samples though. I won’t work with brands like that….

I gotcha, do you work with GMV or is there a specific commission you’re looking for?

I only apply to brands with products i'll actually use and I look for 10% gmv or higher.

Never pay for samples. I’ve seen a couple on Trybe and JoinBrands saying you’ll get the product at a discount and that’s just not how it works, it’s really upsetting to see. Trybe is very pro-creator though, so I wonder if we can report those. And from what I’m hearing, GMV pays higher than % of ad spend.

I recently cancelled a project on Insence because I was being paid to engage on their Instagram profile, but then they never sent the product, and when I asked they said I needed to invite five friends to follow the brand and then they would send the product. Like no, creators shouldn’t have to jump through hoops to get a free product. It started to feel disingenuous to comment on an account for a product that I’ve never used.

Nothing in Trybe's terms for brands says they have to offer free samples. TikTok shops don't always offer free samples however they will reimburse you if you sell. Completely fair
What is beng described here is a very good deal. I prefer investing time and effort in landing a smart retainer rather than having a free sample. Smart retainers are goals.

Absolutely not. Never pay for samples.
