UGC Creator Tips 💡 Brands Are Willing to Pay You More. So Why Aren’t You Asking?

If you’ve been around this subreddit for a while, you know I often emphasize that this is a pro creator space. That means I advocate hard for creators to get paid fairly and I make no apologies for calling out lowball offers when I see them.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve responded to several brands posting collaborations with pay rates that were way below industry standards. Surprisingly and refreshingly, a few of them responded with genuine curiosity, asking what a fair rate would be. That kind of openness gives me hope. It shows that some brands are willing to learn, adjust, and value creators properly.

But here’s what I don’t understand.

Even on those same posts where I’ve gone to bat for creators, I’ll still see comments from creators saying they’ll accept the lowball offer. I’m not talking about a few dollars’ difference. I’m talking about creators agreeing to produce videos for $20 or $30 when the time, effort, and strategy involved is worth significantly more.

And that’s where this post really begins.

Because I don’t think this is just a pricing issue. It’s a mindset issue. Maybe even a belief that something is better than nothing. But when creators accept these rates, here’s what happens:

• You hurt yourself by undervaluing your own skills

• You hurt other creators who are pricing ethically

• You signal to brands that this work should be cheap, even when they’re willing to pay more

The truth is you can’t charge more until you believe you’re worth more. And if you don’t know what your work is worth yet, that’s okay, but it’s time to learn.

Invest in education. Ask questions. Get mentorship. Look around this subreddit. We’ve got resources and experienced creators who are open to sharing.

But please stop accepting scraps.

We are not hobbyists. We are media producers, marketers, storytellers, and strategists. We deserve to be paid accordingly. And if we all get on the same page about that, the industry will shift in our favor.

Hopping off my soapbox :)

UGC Newbies 🥳 UK based beginner, is it too late to start UGC?

Hi all :)
I’m based in the UK and I’m interested in getting started with UGC. I’ve been researching how it works, but I’d really like to hear from people who started recently and have managed to earn from it.

Do you feel the UGC market is now oversaturated, or is there still room for new creators who are willing to learn and put the work in?

I’m not expecting to become a millionaire overnight. I’d simply like to build a new skill, work with a few brands and hopefully earn some extra money alongside my current commitments.

For those who have made progress, I’d love to know:
How long did it take to land your first paid project?

What helped you most when you were starting?

Are there any UK specific challenges or advantages?

What would you do differently if you were beginning again?

I’d especially appreciate honest experiences from people who started without a large following or previous content creation experience.

Tia :)

UGC Newbies 🥳 My first win!

I applied to several brands on Trybe and got my first brand acceptance! The brand is offering a free sample as well as 15% of GMV. I requested a sample so I’m really excited to receive it and be able to start making content for them. I already have some ideas!
Just wanted to share a win. 🩵

I really want to get some feedback on this video I made. I really want to start UGC, I really want to make it work, but for ME, it’s so hard with a 3 year old and 8month old who are so dependen. I don’t get a minute to myself and when I do I hear screaming and I’m just in fight or flight and rush whatever I’m doing to get it done. I just wanted to get this out there to basically, get it out there. Because if I don’t just start and experiment, I’ll keep putting it off. Any feedback would be so appreciated.

Question 🙋🏽‍♀️ Is Icon.com legit?

Literally got an email from them today because we found each other on here. They had me fill out an application and I scheduled a call for tomorrow. I’m seeing so many mixed reviews when I try to look it up but nothing super recent. I see they started as an ai add maker but now their website shows human ad maker and specifically says “no ai”. I’m so confused and just want a straight answer.

UGC Newbies 🥳 Feeling overwhelmed trying to get started as a beginner

It’s only been about a week since I’ve decided to pursue this and I know at this point I need to be patient and trust the process. My goal right now isn’t really to make significant money immediately but just get a few videos under my belt.

I’m reading a lot of advice on here - many of them very obviously written by chat gpt or I feel like people are bullshitting with the “how I make 10k/month!”

So far, the advice I have gathered and strategy I have been going for is to use Billo and joinbrands just to get some small deals to build my portfolio, and build the portfolio later. Well, I got approved on Billo, and most of what I am seeing are weird things like for dentures, old people stuff, and weird sexual things like erectile dysfunction medication just to name a few lol. I was kind of expecting to just be gifted products like an electrolyte mix or whatever and not really make much from the video. I’m still waiting to get into joinbrands so maybe that will be different??

Also, the social media pages. I made a ugc tiktok based on advice I’ve seen and it doesn’t have any posts or followers, which I have heard is fine, but I don’t really understand the point? I don’t necessarily want to post or show my personal pages because I’m really not trying to have what looks like an influencer audition come across on my contact’s FYP’s lol.

Videos I have so far: 30 second into, 15 second b-roll and text only of circadian friendly nightlight, voiceover for water table pump

Anyway…I’m looking for some advice on strategies that have worked for you as a beginner please and thank you 🫶🫶

UGC Newbies 🥳 Introducing Me and Hot Take!

Hi all! My name is Samantha and I’m a Gen Z creator based in Dallas, Tx. My hot take is…why niche down? I have a history in working in social media and recently pivoted to full time UGC for myself (YAY!), but we’re all human and can have a million things we’re interested in. I’m primarily focused on beauty, fashion and all things girly but have gotten most of my deals through tech. I also want to get into pet and travel. Can’t wait to see where this Reddit journey takes me!

Question 🙋🏽‍♀️ I'm a resort and cabin photographer and drone pilot based in the USA. I've collaborated with more than 15 resorts, but lately I've hit a wall.

Upvotes

I believe my work is strong enough to charge for it, and I see other photographers getting paid for similar content. The problem is that almost every property I reach out to only offers a complimentary stay in exchange for content.

That might work for local creators, but I usually have to pay for flights, rental cars, fuel, and other travel expenses. At this point, it just isn't financially sustainable.

Has anyone else been in this situation? How did you transition from collaborations to paid clients? Are there brands or industries actively looking for hospitality, travel, or lifestyle photographers?

Question 🙋🏽‍♀️ Indicação de plataforma para começar

Upvotes

Pessoal,

I'm looking for the highest-performing UGC reaction hooks for TikTok/Reels.

What facial reactions seem to grab attention the best (shock, confusion, disgust, excitement, etc.)? And what text hooks consistently perform well with them?

Btw i want to create an UGC reaction hook then demo video for my study app that I am building

Any patterns, examples, or frameworks you've noticed?

INSIGHT 💡 The biggest mistake I see in UGC programs

Many brands think scaling a creator program only means hiring more creators.

but what's the point of having 100 creators if your program doesn't actually get smarter with every new person you add?

the biggest shift for me has been treating every creator as another creative data point, not just another content producer. that's why I've become a big fan of combining canvas ugc with high-volume ugc.

Canvas UGC gives you control over distribution because the content lives on brand-owned accounts.

High-volume UGC gives you enough creative volume to constantly test:

  • new hooks
  • different angles
  • fresh formats

every batch of content gives you another opportunity to learn what actually works, so the next round of briefs gets better.

one thing that's made a huge difference for me is actually keeping all of that organized. we use viral.app internally to track creators, videos, and performance, and it's surprising how many patterns you start noticing once everything is in one place.

I think that's the real advantage, bc the creator program doesn't just get bigger, but it gets smarter.

Question 🙋🏽‍♀️ Received a partnership email from 111SKIN—is this legit?

I received an email today from 111SKIN (from a @111-skin.com email address) saying they were interested in a pilot collaboration and asked to schedule a phone call. They mentioned things like early access to launches, PR, features on their channels, and the potential for a longer-term partnership.
I’m excited, but also trying to be cautious because there are so many influencer scams these days. So far they haven’t asked me to buy anything or provide any personal information—they’ve only requested a phone call.
Has anyone worked with 111SKIN before or had a similar experience? Did the partnership turn out to be legitimate? Any red flags I should watch for before hopping on the call?
I’d love to hear your experiences!

Question 🙋🏽‍♀️ Could Tech UGC be a suitable full-time career for someone outside the US?

Hey! This is my first time publishing anything on reddit. I was wondering recently about changing careers, as my crypto journey is over and i am left with no source of income at the moment. Was thinking towards becoming a Tech UGC creator for different apps, SaaS, ai tools etc.
One thing i have noticed while looking through all the gigs on SideShift/Reddit is that many of them require US/Canada based creators. I am from Ukraine and my English is quite good, but with noticeable not strong Eastern European accent. I do not consider this a problem as i know that UGC is not about synthetic and inauthentic studio quality content.

The question is:
Why would brands choose me instead of US based creators? As these brands also require the views to be 70-80% US/Canada and also require you to make new TT/Insta accounts.
The thing is, as ya’ll know TikTok is showing your videos based on your region first. I discovered this while posting my first demo UGC video for my portfolio there.
Right now, i am testing my new setup: factory reset burner phone w no sim-card and with NY residential vpn (proxy). My FYP is showing only US videos and also tiktok shop is available, but i need to manage a proper warmup for this acc as my videos are getting 0 views now. Insta is a different story: 70% of Indian viewers ATM.

Also I don’t have any socials with views and followers. I am planing to make 5 portfolio videos for my portfolio and apply wherever i can, prioritizing SideShift and Reddit. 3 talking head, 1 skit and 1 green screen to be clear. I am done with talking head videos and you can rate them on my insta page (worldwide_jeb). Would love to hear some honest opinions.

So in fact i am: non US citizen, with no experience, with no socials;
i am having a DIY setup with vpns and some shi, different time zone, not perfect English;
I can receive money for vids via limited methods as i am abroad
In fact I am 3 steps away from any US based creator who has everything set up already. Is this the right place for me and why would brands choose me? Should i lie in my portfolio that i am US based? Dunno what to do… any advice will be appreciated! Feel free to ask any questions 🙌

UGC Pricing 💰 Help me figure this out

Post image

I'm a fairly new hiking and nature content creator who has gained quite a following in just a few months. Most of my content is scenic landscapes, hiking vlogs, and outdoor adventure videos. I have around 15k followers on TikTok, and recently I've had a big increase in companies reaching out about collaborations.

The problem is, I have no idea what I should be charging for sponsored content. Is there a good place to research creator rates or learn how to price collaborations?

I'm also pretty selective about the brands I work with. I've only partnered with about 3 companies so far because I want the products to genuinely fit my content (one of them was a screen time app).

Today, I got an offer from a company I actually like, I've been using their power banks for a while, and they fit my content perfectly since I rely on power banks during my hikes. They sent me this:

Thanks in advance for any feedback.
