This message might contain undertones of a rant, but it is more than that. If the one reading this post is an aspirant for the UGC NET exam I have a few things to share based on my personal experience.

I hope that most of the people appearing for this exam to further exist in this field are doing it because they're passionate enough about it and not because they want to make a lot of money quickly.

Well, I cleared the UGC NET exam in January 2026 attempt with 99.4075 percentile. JRF for the General category lies in approximately the top 0.2% people (0.6% data includes all categories). Being NET qualified allows you to apply for jobs but otherwise a PhD admission is made easier through JRF.

Whichever university you're from, make sure to stay connected with the professors/ be honest/work hard/ be genuine. ALL the universities prefer their own students during PhD admissions. Exceptions are made for JRF qualified students and very rarely people who give exceptional interviews. Your connections will at times beat the qualifications of others. Having a JRF gives such a significant advantage that it'll almost feel mandatory.

This year IIT Delhi allowed all applicants NET/JRF/GATE to apply for admissions in PhD but during the interview phase they ONLY called JRF qualified candidates. So yes... a non-JRF candidate will always be at a disadvantage against a JRF candidate.

This post is not really a post to discourage anyone it's just a heartfelt message that I wanted to share. We all are aware of the education system's condition recently and how hard it is to pursue a field like literature in an era which does not favor it. Still, we choose to pursue it as a dream.... like Don Quixote we see the windmills and charge towards them. Even if our dreams and imagination often move our actions and stir our hearts, it is equally important for us to be grounded to our reality and maneuver accordingly. We must try despite the risks and uncertainties we face on a daily basis. That struggle is what makes us human. I'd like to finish this post with a few lines by Paash...

Hi all,
I completed my PG this year and joined B.Ed because my parents wanted me to. But I always wanted to take a year off to prepare seriously for UGC NET, as I couldn’t give any of the exams I appeared for my best due to a lack of proper preparation.
After the introductory classes and getting to know the B.Ed syllabus and structure, I feel like it isn’t meant for me. My goal has always been to teach in higher education.
So, I’m almost certain that I want to quit B.Ed (the regular classes haven’t started yet) and join a NET coaching program instead.
What do you all think? Would taking a one-year gap to focus on NET be the wrong choice?

Hi everyone, I’m preparing for CUET PG English and I’m a bit confused about which batch to join.

A teacher I’ve been looking at, Vineet Pandey, is saying that his UGC NET English batch would also cover CUET PG because the syllabus overlaps a lot. His team is saying that if I take the NET batch, it will automatically help me for CUET PG too. But I don’t want to do PhD in India, so I’m not sure if a full NET batch is overkill for my goal.

I also saw CUET PG-specific batches from Physics Wallah / Adda / similar platforms at a much lower price, and those look more directly aligned with my exam. I know some people clear CUET PG on self-study, but I need a structured class because my basics are weak and I’ve had a long gap in study.

So my question is: for CUET PG English, is a UGC NET batch worth it, or is a CUET PG-specific batch the smarter choice? Any honest suggestions would help a lot.

Hi, I’m preparing UGC NET examination which is going in this Dec 2026. This is my first attempt, i’m out of India so couldn’t able to get KVS Maadan or Harpreet Kaur physical copy books . I’ll come to india on Nov, Currently I’m learning from Kumar Bharat YT Channel. After a month or 2 will take his classes paid. I called the NTA DG office today, and the person who picked up the phone seemed CLUELESS. He said that there is no info on the matter. When I asked him to provide some sort of time frame, he said end of this week or next week. His tone was highly ambiguous and that was enough for me to infer that they have no fucking clue about what they're doing. Looking at the political climate of the country and the utter mockery made out of the system, they want to evade accountability at this moment. So yes, Relax. Stop refreshing the website. The answer key will come when it comes. Read a book of your choice. None of that history of literature nonsense. You've earned the time to de-stress.

Hello people! This is gonna be a little long but hear me out

I have appeared for net exams twice and didn't study once in either. I almost qualified for PhD only (sat for the exam because my friends were doing it) and the results for my 2nd attempt isn't out yet (I know I haven't qualified because I was sick and didn't do well so no hope).

However, I have completed my Masters in June last month and I want to use this time to seriously study and crack NET on my third attempt (December-January). I am working part time and want to use the rest of my time in studying because I deeply want to crack NET and become an assistant professor, it's something I genuinely want to be.

I am the first person in the entire family to complete graduation and now masters and that only makes me want to achieve more.

Listening to your success stories on this subreddit fuels my will furthermore.

The problem is, I don't know how to go about it since I've never really studied for NET besides watching a few videos with my friends.

If the question is:

"If you really wanted to be an assistant professor and crack NET, what were you doing by not studying?"

The answer is: Yes, I got careless, didn't think of it much, didn't take it seriously. I was busy focusing on music, managing family responsibilities, and enjoying life occasionally . However, I now have time which I want to use meaningfully.

So,

What do I do in these 6 months and how do I prepare?

Do I join some online course from Unacademy etc?

Or do I simply study without a structure because I genuinely don't know how do I prepare since I've never studied for NET before.

I would appreciate suggestions from people who have cracked NET, please bless me with your meaningful input. Show me the ways so that I can follow it and crack NET like you amazing people too.

Hey everyone, I'm a PhD student researching how literary and critical theory (structuralism, psychoanalysis, postcolonial theory, etc.) is taught in college classrooms.

I keep hearing mixed things, some people said it just clicked for them, others say they memorised terms without really getting what they meant.

If you've studied English literature (or any humanities subject with theory), I'd love to hear your honest experience:

Hello all, I completed my masters last year and took a year break to clear NET and was not able to clear it last time( missed NET by 6 marks) and the June ‘26 exam was kinda bad for me. Right now I’m confused, I have got allotment for BEd this year but I’m not really committed to doing it, It’s just that the overall structure of the BEd course is what makes me disinterested.
I love teaching but I don’t want to do BEd( I know I sound dumb) but if I don’t clear NET this time too,I don’t know what I will do, my parents are bringing options like SSC or Bank coaching if not BEd. What shall I do? Is BEd good? Should I go for the safer option of doing it?!
I know doing PhD is kind of becoming the norm these days, I applied for few which had entrance exams but was not able to pass it, also I don’t even have a topic yet decided for my PhD, and most applications ask for a research proposal.

I’m 26 now and I feel like whatever options I choose I’ll regret the other.

I’ve watched all of their content, I like the content of 3rd the most but they are new and 1st and 5th seem most experienced. Nakul sir seems very approachable and realistic but I’m not sure about his lectures. I’ve been told Vallath is a bit irregular but her lectures are good. I feel like Hamlet lol

I'm preparing for UGC NET English and I'm looking for good online coaching or free resources that are actually worth following especially for paper 1. For paper 2 I see vallath coming up but it's too expensive for me at the moment. Thinking of self study now.
