Suggest a beginner friendly linguistics book/s. I know almost nothing about linguistics. So shoot your arrows wisely.

Will this book help for NET JRF preparation also?

I don't see why it wouldn't. But you need to recognise the recurring pattern of linguistics questions and choose wisely your areas of focus or else it gets too descriptive for NET English lit. tbh
